We pay good money to drive these piles of junk. I called gm about the brake problem and they told me my truck wasn't part of that recall even though it does what the other trucks do that are now on that recall. They say they are in the salt belt - well let's see, here in SYR. NY we get a hell of a lot of snow if that's not the salt belt I don't know what is (I don't know if you are to do one at a time for complaints but that's my b___h!!!!)

I bought this truck a year and a half ago and everything was fine then all of a sudden one day driving down the highway the damn gas gauge started fluctuating between full and empty and the tank was full and this has been an ongoing problem ever since ive had the truck and Chevy or gm needs to come up with a solution to fix this problem or they will loose a customer and i will change my choice of trucks and im a die hard Chevy fan but i know many people with this same problem and its really annoying

Gas gauge shows empty on a full tank of gas, after the gas gets used maybe a gallon or 2 it starts to register on the gauge but bounces back and forth between empty and full.

I've been living with this for over two years, have yet to take it to the shop only because I KNOW it's going to be very expensive to fix. I use my trip meter and always fill the tank, and luckily there have been just a few times when I was sweating bullets until I reached the next gas station.
Where this seems to happen on so many Chevy trucks, I would think it would be a recall! I'm looking at a new FORD for my next vehicle!

The gas gauge has begun to fluctuate between empty and full. It does this now constantly whether in park and idling or driving down the highway. I was told that Chevrolet's were notorious for the gas gauge going out and the tank would have to be removed to fix it. I feel that this is a safety hazard, that doesn't appear to be an isolated incident but is sure prevalent in their vehicles.

the gas gauge has begun to fluctuate between empty and full. The first time it happened I thought someone had stolen my gas but then it went back up. It does this now constantly whether in park and idling or going 70 MPH down the highway. I was told by a garage mechanic that Chevrolet's were notorious for the gas gauge going out and the tank would have to be removed to fix it at a cost of over $600. I feel that this is a safety hazard as I could be left stranded on the side of the road. Chevrolet should be made to correct this problem since it does not seem to be an isolated incident but is pretty prevalent in their vehicles.

Does anyone know how to start a class action law suit or initiate a request for recall for the gas gauge (fuel sending unit) problem? It's a problem in so many trucks it's ridiculous. Thanks

This is a very common problem in Silverados of '99-'03. Why hasn't Chevy offered to fix this problem? It's a relatively cheap part. Labor is about 3 hours.

I can't believe that GM does not recall the gas gauge problem in their pickup trucks. II
I have a 2001 Silverado 4x4 that the gas gauge goes crazy on. Even my neighbor
who has a 1999 has the same problem. I have also heard of several other people
having the same problem with their trucks. I guess customers that have already
purchased vehicles are not as high of a priority as selling new ones. I wish someone
would disclose how to fix this problem but you first have to admit there is a problem
I have been a Chevy fan for 35 years but who says you can't teach an old dog new
tricks. My son has a couple of nice dodges and he has a pickup his wife is turning
in on lease in a couple of months. Sounds Good!!!

Sounds like a problem with more than just a few gauges. It is hard to believe that Chevy and GM has not stepped up to take care of a problem of this size.
How can we get the attention of this company to take action.
I have always loved Chevy's, but if this is the way they are going to handle problems I might have to look for another brand.

My father in law & I drove 2 trucks off the lot at the same time. About 1 1/2 - 2 years later, both started having this problem within a week of each other. I can't believe there is no recall. He asked the dealership about it while in for service. He was told if they dropped the gas tank & the wires to the sending unit were chaffed, warranty would cover. If not, he would have to pay for repair & it wouldn't be cheap.

i work in the construction business and that keeps me very busy. i'm a general contractor and i ride around a lot placing bids, getting materials, and bidding other jobs....i need my fuel gauge to read correctly because i don't want to get caught in the middle of something and run out of gas because my indicator wasn't reading right

the problem started soon after refill on a uphill grade the fuel guage would flash to empty then flash back to full. It became gradually worse to when would show empty as well as the fuel low light. It was weird I could shift to Neutral and the meter would then register, that still works most of the time. I just fill it up and wait till after about 70 miles for a continuous reading of the fuel level. One time it read 1/8th tank, then I parked for a bit, proceeded to drive on a different destination and the gauge read 1/4 full. After a short bit of driving the gauge went below the original 1/8th which would of been correct and showed nearly empty. Faulty ground wire, the sending unit in the fuel tank is what I believe could be the issue.

This only started happening since my last fill-up. The fuel gauge went down to empty with the bright low fuel light shining. It only happened a couple of times when I was still close to full. It didn't happen again until I filled up again yesterday. Now it will go to empty while I'm idling, as I accelerate, as I slow down...... doesn't seem to matter when. It just happens a lot more often. I have also had the gauge go to the half full mark and just stay there. Sometimes it will go back to full or empty, I usually just turn the truck off and restart it, then it goes back to full. I really hope a recall does come from this issue soon.

Had to fight tooth and nail just to get Chevy to pay for a part they recalled less than 10 miles north and west of me (ABS sensor that they finally recalled in KY about 9 months later) so it's getting to be a real problem to see everyone having the same issues and Chevy not backing up their #1 truck line. My fuel gauge just started going to empty when I stop at lights after filling up. Most of the time it comes right back up when i take off but sometimes it does not. Just waiting for it to shut off for good. I use to defend Chevy to the end but now I'm rethinking my next purchase. (it's paid off next year)

Gas gauge drops off to empty and low fuel lite comes on intermittently when the tank is full and until it goes below half full. The trouble is less frequent below half full. I haven't had it looked at yet so can't help with a fix. Also, I know of others with the same problem.

Fuel gauge will drop to show empty when the tank is not. Due to busy schedule, haven't been able to get appt to fix but upon talking to another Chevy Silverado owner he too is having the same problem. Very inconvenient to have to always remember how many miles I have driven since my last fill up. I was hoping that other owners might have the same problem so that a possible recall can be issued.

Like the rest of you, My gas gauge fluctuates wildly. When I fill the truck up the low fuel light comes on. After I drive 30-40 miles it settles down and seems mostly accurate but occasionally will say low fuel. I've learned to reset my trip odometer and refuel at 300 miles because I just can't stand the thought of spending $600-1000 to have this fixed.
The problem is I am trying to sell my truck and it is going to knock my sale price down. I wish Chevy would admit it is a problem because we deserve better Damn it!
