Silverado 8-cyl Diesel

I was entering my driveway and began to brake going downhill, the brake pedal sudden "went to the floor" (brake line had ruptured due to corrosion). After taking truck to mechanic, I learned all my brake lines were serverely corroded and had to be replaced - fuel lines as well. Repairs totaled $2185. I owned several other make pickups, driven under the same conditions and have never experienced any problem with either brake or fuel lines.

Silverado 8-cyl Diesel

  • 110,000 miles
The truck has 110K miles on the duramax / allison drive train. The diesel fuel injection pump failed unexpectedly and without warning. This powertrain combination should be capable of 500K miles without problems like this. This pump should not fail after normal use in only 110K miles. Nothing but excuses and other not possible reasons for the poor engineering and manufacturing exhibited in their product. They said the methanol water injection system caused the fuel injection pump to fail. Methanol (non caustic fluid) is injected air side of the engine and does not mix with the injected fuel until the engine cylinder. The fuel injection pump supplies fuel to the individual injectors that then in turn supplies the high pressure fuel to the cylinders. If this condition was to happen on the road pulling a trailer / heavy load in hills or other confined roadways people could be injured or killed by the sudden loss of power and control. GM business practices are going to continue to kill and hurt people.

: the contact stated the vehicle stalls at any speed without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealership several times. The level sensor, fuel injection wiring harness, the direct fuel injection driver, the fuel tank, and the fuel tank module have been replaced. The sender pump assembly was replaced twice. After the last replacement the check engine light illuminated and the dealer could not determine the cause of the problem.

Vehicle diesel system has a problem transferring fuel into the truck for use. It runs out while the front fuel tank is still full of fuel. The fuel tank never reads over half full. It is being towed for the second time during the month of July. It will be in the dealership shop for the 3rd time since purchased, 2nd time this month. We are told they do not know what to do, since they cannot figure out the problem. We are currently waiting for a service bulletin. This truck is our only work truck and a car loaner does not help with the towing of our MINI

It started with fuel guage failure severel times. I was told to bring the truck by and they would reset the computer until a bullitin from the manufacturer came out. The truck broke down away from home then they had a bullitin and made the repairs. Truck breaks down again Kansas service manager said they had lots of problems with this fuel system. Truck has new transfer pump installed then gets picked up, five miles later fuel guage fails once again.
