I BOUGHT A 2007 CHEVY SILVERADO IN JULY OF 2006 BY JANUARY IT WAS MAKING A KNOCKING NOISE IN THE FRONT END EVERY TIME I TURN RIGHT OR LEFT. IN EARLY 2007 THE DEALER REPLACED THE STEERING RACK. IN 2008 IT STARTED TO MAKE THE SAME KNOCKING NOISE. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER IN OCTOBER OF 2008 BUT THIS TIME I PAID CLOSE TO $500.00 FOR THEM TO REPLACE THE STEERING RACK. NOW AGAIN AROUND MAY OF 2009 IT IS MAKING THE SAME KNOCKING NOISE. IV'E ALREADY COMPLAINT TO THE CHEVROLET DEALER IF THIS PART WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED EVERY YEAR BECAUSE FOR THEM TO REPLACE THE PART AGAIN THEY WANT ANOTHER $500.00, IT DID NOT EVEN LAST A YEAR.

I am adding this to help people. It was fixed really easy at dealer. I am sorry so many are having issues but my dealer, Three-Way in Bakersfield, fixed it first time. I have provided the info from my invoice to help anyone with this issue.

My 2007 Chevy Classic started to get a clunking in the front end at 8,000 miles. My parents who own a 2004 Silverado had the same problem and the dealer told them it was the steering column and that it needed to be replaced. It is so annoying to turn the wheel and hear that clunking. I am taking it to the dealer today to get them to fix it! Thank goodness for warranties.

Bought 2007 Chevrolet Silverado Classic Crew Cab 4X4, 4.8, automatic ... Hoffman Chevrolet Hagerstown, MD Used Car Lot. Noise was occurring at that time. I just fiqured that the original shocks were the problem. I finally replaced shocks. Same clunking which is also felt through the steering wheel.Started research and found NHTSA Notice - Service Bullitin #000235003N - NHTSA # 10025148. By this time I had over 36000 miles and the dealer (now under new management) refuses to repair. The original management, one person whom I knew personally, would have fixed the problem. Dealer cost would be around $125.00; My cost (retail) is almost $200.00. I can buy the part at 10% above cost and do it myself. The 'old' parts manager, I used to work for was let go with all of the other good managers when the new management came in. That parts manager is with another GM dealer and will let me have the part at the previously mentioned discount price. He further told me that this was a problem with so many vehicles including my truck and other models built by GM and that a knowledgeable parts manager keeps these 'shafts' in stock. I guess I'm lucky, in that I did not get the "SHAFT" from Hoffman of Hagerstown, MD.
