My mechanic fixed the problem and now the lifters are going bad again. i wish they had a recall so the GM would fix the problems.

My cruise won't work.

My engine light is on.

Silverado LT 5.3L V8 Afm

  • Automatic transmission
  • 93,000 miles

Original owner of a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, with a 5.3 L V8 Active Fuel Management engine. Great service record over the 93,000 miles I have had my truck. March 2017 I began hearing a knocking noise that progressively got worse of a two week period. Upon a dealership inspection, it was determined that a defective lifter damaged the cam, that also included damage to the timing sprocket, and chain. I had done some research, and found many Chevrolet Truck owners from 2006-2013 had this same engine issue. The repair costs were astronomical, compared to a factory rebuilt product. A new crate engine was only a few hundred dollars more to have installed.

A new factory crate engine was installed in my truck. I have a 3 year 100,000 dealership warranty. Total repair costs were $7,100. I purchased an extended warranty last year to protect myself, and $3,000 of the repair bill was covered by the warranty. My repair cost was $4,100.

If many Chevrolet Truck owners have had these same issues over the past several years, why hasn't Chevrolet fixed these engine defects? Is Chevrolet forcing true GM owners to buy other manufactures products? Like Dodge? Ford? Toyota?
