I started up and was backing out of my driveway. When I tried to slow the brakes felt weird shuddered a lot and then I had difficulty stopping. Service brake assist popped up on my screen. I slowly pulled into the driveway and when I tried to stop the truck shuddered and had a hard time stopping.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at slow speeds and making a left turn, the steering wheel and brakes became inoperable. The vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and the contact was provided the diagnostic test cost, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V414000 (Steering). The manufacturer was contacted but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
About 2 years after purchased (~2016), I was driving slowly in a parking lot and turned into a parking space. The brake pedal became very hard to press and the truck would not stop. I had to push extremely hard to get it to stop. I backed up and experienced the same problem. I put it in park, then the problem went away. There were no warning lights or indicators of a problem. I got a notice for a recall and took it into the dealer for repair in 2019. From 2019 through 2022, I have had 4 to 5 more incidents of the same problem. It seems to repeat when I slow down to a slow crawl with a trailer for added weight. I push the brakes while crawling and then the brake pedal gets hard to push and I loose brakes. Extremely dangerous, especially with added weight on a slight decline. I have found multiple instances with other customers reporting the same problem. Currently in contact with Chevy to resolve. I have reported the problem twice to the dealer and once to the "Customer Satisfaction" hotline. Chevy has confirmed that a recall was performed on the vehicle in 2019, but they cannot provide any information that the recall work fixed the problem or if they even tested that the fix was performed properly. Furthermore, they only report a "reprogramming" was done. No other work reported by Chevy, though, there are comments from other customers that a vacuum pump recall exists. They have yet to resolve the problem.
Braking system!!! yes avaliable for inspection anytime. When traveling no matter the speed when applying the brakes no matter the situation the brakes dont work the pedal feels real hard to push for a man of my stature 6'1" 265 pds. 1st time was getting home and the pedal goes hard and brakes dont work. This has happened numerous numerous times in drive thrus, intersections, stop lights and stop sign's, home almost taking out the garage door almost running my kids over!!!! hugh problems respectively if that were to ever happen. This is a manufacturer problem and owner nightmares that needs to be fixed before serious injuries happen... 2ndly, the engine lifters &transmission is another hugh problem for a person who works extremely hard for everthing he owns and takes care of his vehicle very meticulously because of how hard I worked for every penny to buy my all-time favorite trucks!!! ive owned many Silverado's over my 47yrs of life and never have I been so disappointed in a vehicle for manufacturer flaws at the purchaser's expense!!!!! and we the purchaser's are not talking nickles and dimes either!!!!! thousands after we paid hard earned tens of thousands to purchase the xxxxxx of xxxx and it kills me to say that but its what I feel after a lifetime of loyalty to Silverado's and the people that manufacture them. You must address every major problem and yyyooooouuuu know what they are!!!!! if a recall is not done for no fault of ours the loyal people that love our trucks I will not for the rest of my days on this beatiful planet ever by a GM product again. And I believe so many loyal others will follow suit. Do what's right and we all win in the end. Or you, yes you, will lose!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! stand behind your product like we have, some all our lives or may carma have its way with you and we will stand by just as you and do nothing. As for the important questions that come after this section it has been happing for years! thanks 4your money sorry about your luck
Brake pedal gets hard under low speeds. Causes a stopping hazzard in parking lots and drive thrust. This year and model has been recalled for this, but my vin is not coming up as a recall. I worry when I back my boat in the water that my truck wont stop.

When backing truck up & pressing brake, it feels "spongy" or like the brake is not working right and sometimes vehicle doesn't stop. I had mechanic inspect brakes & they reported no visible issues. They recommended for me to check for a recall relating to this issue.
I had 2 recalls done, one for power steering & one for brakes. My truck was not experiencing ANY problems before I had this recall done. The day I had it done I lost power steering while trying to park at Home Depot immediately after leaving dealership, almost causing me to hit the vehicle I was trying to park next to. Thinking it was a fluke, i drove it home afterwards & when I got on the highway to go home, I experienced a very loud metal on metal sound that only went away after applying the brakes. I don-€™t drive much since I work from home, however every time I drive it for 10 min or so, the sound came back followed by increased braking pressure to stop, also almost causing multiple accident and any time I was driving slow & trying to make tight maneuvers or turning my wheel too park or go through roundabouts I would lose power steering. I took it back to the dealership & was told the serpentine belt was not installed properly & they replaced the vacuum pump for the brakes. Told that the steering & brakes were fixed and after starting I wasn-€™t taking it back until it-€™s verified fixed by test driving for more than just a few minutes & parked multiple times, I was told it was ok. I went straight home & while on the highway, the sound reappeared & didn-€™t go away & pulling into my driveway, the steering failed again. I left multiple messages that weren-€™t returned & while recently on the hwy, I was hearing the sound & had play in the wheel, I slammed on the brakes after a semi almost hit me & my truck shook like it was falling apart & I called 800# scared to drive & I had difficulty steering & breaking & with no way to get home I had to drive it & took it to the dealership again & now they-€™re telling me I have to pay for diagnostics & I refuse to pay Chevy a dime since my truck was fine until Chevy-€™s incompetent mechanic made my truck unsafe to drive. They deleted my dash cam videos also. I have numerous videos showing everything.
Steering assist warning light comes on and vehicle shut down losing ability to steer or brake, vehicle wouldn-€™t start, tried to start the next day and vehicle started.Before warning light all lights flickered when applying brakes and other warning lights lit up!
Using a signal for lane changes causes cruise control to disengage, suspension messages and air bag failure messages as well as tire failure icon would all come on and when leaving the exit ramp and decelerating the engine would die and system would lock up without ability to steer. So dangerous. Then next trip all is good but the engine failing while driving has happened a half dozen times. The last incident was another engine failure during an exit from the interstate in November.
For several years now, I have been receiving the notification SERVICE: Trailer Brake. I typically try to dismiss it, but on occasion, it will continue to pop up over and over and over and over again. I have driven this vehicle since it's original purchase and have never even used the trailer brake. (Even though it's been titled twice - I purchased it from the company I work for.) Thankfully it has not caused any accidents. Just an annoyance. But I have been reading online that some owners have been unable to operate their vehicles due to this issue. This is not a daily driver vehicle but today was the most recent episode with the warning. I drove maybe a couple of miles total and it chimed and notified me approximately 20 times in this short distance. I looked on youtube and there are countless owners that have this same problem. It is definitely a distraction to the driver and could potentially cause a very serious accident.
I purchased this vehicle used in July of 2020. Ever since then, I have experienced random issues with a Service-Trailer Brake System warning coming on. It will keep coming and the chime is extremely distracting and cannot be silenced for any significant period of time. After reviewing on the internet, I am also very concernd about pulling a load with a braking system. I may go for hundreds of miles with no warning, then the warning will start coming in repeatedly. I have not at this time attempted any repairs.

I almost got in a wreck this morning. I turned down a street lost power, brakes and steering all at once. this has been happening ever since I bought this truck. Thank God the vehicle behind me was traveling at a safe distance. The system says I have no recalls but I continue to read issues involving total loss of power on 2014 Chevy Silverado-€˜s" What-€™s it gonna take for Chevy to own this mistake"
While approaching stoplight stepped on brakes and had zero braking power. Coasted to service company they confirmed no braking power. They determined vacuum was bad and replaced
The 2014 and up Chevrolet Silverado 1500 models are notorious for electrical issues and bugs, some may have been recalled but other were not included in that recall while still having the same issues, these vehicles have major electrical system issues, from bad battery cables, down to every Control Module associated with the truck, over time salt, sand, mud, moisture disrupts certain key areas of the electrical wiring harness underneath the vehicle, General Motors knows about this but fails to recall these vehicles, it creates a very serious matter when you have no traction control, or any ABS function, along with loss of power steering assist. These control systems can be life and death when they are not working!. GM needs to address these issues and recall ALL 2014+ Silverado-€™s and alike for these electrical issues relating to -€œloss of communication with the ECM, BCM, TCM, EBCM, TCCM, PSCM, etc. these are costly break downs and these modules are very expensive to just throw in and hope it fixes the issue, most dealers don-€™t want to trace wiring issues and will just tell the customer cannot replicate which leaves us vulnerable. Some customers state their vehicles will randomly shut off while driving, others report their truck going into -€œLimp home mode-€. Nobody can seem to centralize a specific area where the problems are occurring but believe it has something to do with the material and the way the harness was made.
