The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado. After inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed the spare tire cable fractured causing the spare tire to detach from the vehicle. The strands where the cable fractured were uneven and contained rust. The contact was unaware unsure what the approximate speed was when the failure occurred. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000. Updated 01/13/12

The automatic 4 wheel drive shifts from 2 wheel high to 4 wheel low while driving. I have replaced encoder once and now does it again. This not uncommon in Chevy P/U's. was told by service writer this happened to a truck while it was going down road at 70mph and it destroyed power train. The person was lucky that they had their seat belts on. Problem # 2 is sometimes the speedometer works and sometimes it does not another common defect. When I worked for a plumbing company they had this some of their trucks. I also talked to a former GM mechanic and he said that these problems were common with Chevy trucks. There are recalls for hub caps and lights but not for something as serious as these 2 defects. How long before someone is injured or dies before this is corrected?

Speedometer not working properly. Does not read accurate speed. When needle starts to rise, the motion is not constant. The needle instead "ticks" up upon acceleration.

Chevy Silverado and Chevy Suburban with same problem. Check engine light comes on. This could either mean to check engine or that the gas cap is loose. Engine was checked and so was gas cap. Nothing wrong. Servicer turned off the check engine light. Next time truck was started up the light came on again.

Re:Chevy 2005 instrument cluster failure about 6 months ago, my 2005 Chevy Silverado 200 truck started experiencing the speedometer failure issue. At that time I called in the dealership tom jumper where I purchased this vehicle and they told me that they know about this issue and it would cost about $600 to get this fixed. They also informed me that there was a litigation against GM for the speedometer issue and had me call GM directly to get this issue fixed to avoid out of pocket expenses. This dealership has closed and out of business. I did call GM according to them there has been litigation going on and they directed to me to this website to find out the status periodically. The website now informs that there was a settlement notice issued and for people who have paid for this repair work should claim their reimbursements. I refuse to pay out of pocket and asked them to get my vehicle fixed as its a manufacturer problem on supplying defective parts. They are asking me to go to Chevy dealer and get it diagnosed paid by me and then they will determine if they I am eligible for this repair work. I found this absolutely unacceptable and fraudulent as per keeping their client as a hostage to their demands. I want some action done to help protect consumers like me who are essentially paying for the bailout of these companies in the current economic condition. Please help in this matter. Thanks. I was driving 55 mph on a state highway when the engine started revving up. The transmission quit while driving down the highway with only 63,000 miles the transmission would engage but would slip out of gear around 45 mph the dealer replaced the transmission at a cost of $2700. Took 3 days 18000 miles later driving down a country road the transmission quit again. I was able to limp it home (60 miles) in first gear. The dealer said it was a rare occurence. The dealer rebuilt the transmission free of charge but it took 11 days the dealer said forward spring assembly broke?

Took my truck to the dealership and was advised my tires were almost bald...had only 16,900+ miles. Dealership replace tires, but not the same type. Yes, same brand, Bridgestone dueller A/T. also dealership did a realignment. Truck never rode the same after the alignment and the new tires. Dealership replaced two on the back after my mechanic noted they were egg shaped. This still did not correct the problem. Tires given to me were bad and the dealership would not correct. Took it to another dealership and their GM rep wrode with me and noted the truck running rough from the tires. Ordered a road force balancing on the tires. This did not work also. Now this dealership will look at my vehicle an further. Truck is still under warranty. Did take it to tire service center and they said the tires are bad and truck needs realignment and also a check of the front end. Advisor stated he could feel every divot in the road, which is not normal. Faxed their report to the local GM rep and he refuses to acknowledge the problem. Neither dealership will even look at the problem. I am afraid for the safety of my family. Can you help me?

: the contact stated the tonneau cover used on the bed of the pickup truck does not catch properly. The clips holding the lid in place only catch 1/8" on the bed of the truck. At highway speeds, the lid opens and the contents of the truck bed ejects. The manufacturer of the tonneau cover is steffens enterprises Inc. The contact has been unsuccessful in contacting the manufacturer. Updated 05/04/06
