The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving approximately 10 mph, the brake pedal traveled to the floor without warning. The contact had to constantly pump the brake pedal and apply extreme force to ensure that the vehicle completely stopped. The vehicle was able to be driven to the contact's residence and parked. Upon further inspection, it was noticed that a brake line may have prematurely fractured and there was a presence of leaking fluid. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 05V043000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided no solution other than to have the vehicle repaired by a dealer. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000...updated 11/21/16

Upon having my truck inspected for 2014, it was revealed to me that all of the brake lines on the truck were severely corroded and needed replaced. I was told that this is a "common" problem on Chevy trucks. The cost of repairing the brake lines has been estimated at a much higher number than the $500 that GMC quotes. On top of that I fail to see why they can create stainless steel exhaust systems, but apparently use cheap metal for their hard brake lines. I actually had the truck undercoated at the Chevy dealership so that I would not have to deal with these type of issues. I'm not sure who undercoated the vehicle, but I will never get it done by Chevrolet again. I have had much older vehicles (1982) that went double the amount of years before needing any hard brake repairs. I have read about the investigation into these vehicles up to the year 2003, but I think that the problem must still exist in newer vehicles such as mine.

Noticed my brake lines coming out of the brake master cylinder are rusting ! these lines are not near the road [ chemicals/ road salts ] but are in the engine compartment. My truck is located and driven in southern California in a warm location [ not in the mountains and winter cold]. I will have to check the rest of the lines and do something before they rust thru and cause an accident. This is a safety issue.

The problem addressed in your NHTSA action number: PE05020 for earlier model years of the same truck are occurring in my 2005 truck. This has led to near rear-end collisions. The brakes go into an "anti-lock" condition at slow speeds while braking, no matter what the weather or road conditions are. You should extend the model years covered in your earlier recall to include all thru 2005 models and perhaps beyond or issue a new recall based on this and similar complaints from consumers. Obviously GM did not fix the problem in follow on versions of the Silverado.

ABS engages when rolling to a stop sign at very low speeds. The brake pedal gets soft and you roll past where you think you would have stopped. The ABS light does not come on when this happens. I disabled the ABS by pulling the fuse and the problem does not occur. I think it is a ABS sensor issue as there are no leaks or loss of brake fluid and evertything else looks fine.

When rotating my tires at 29,000 miles, I inspected the front disc brakes on my truck. I noticed that ton both front wheels. The disc brake pads were only touching the rotors in an area of 1/2" on the inside of the rotors. I took the truck to the dealer and they said it wasn't covered by the warranty because it had more than 25000 miles. I had to replace the rotors and brake pads at my own expense of $400.
