2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 approx 92,000 tack and fuel gauge failed. Prior to 92,000 tack would intermittently jump between 0 and 2,000 RPM but return to normal shortly afterward. This started around 85,000. Now it stays at 6,000 RPM and doesn't move. Fuel gauge is a complete failure and not accurate at all.

She was advised that the failure occurred within the instrument cluster. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 90,347.

As we were driving down the street black smoke started to come out of the air conditioning vents. Then I noticed flames and melted plastic coming out of the bottom of the glove box area. We pulled our child from the burning truck and called 911. Fire trucks were there in less than 4 minutes but by that time the entire passenger cab was engulfed in flames and there were at least two separate explosions that blew out all the windows, my husband thinks that the airbags exploded. The truck is a complete loss and we are lucky to have escaped with only minor injuries. We could have been killed or seriously injured.

I have a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado. I kept smelling an odor of something burning but could not find where it was coming from until recently when my fan motor stopped working. I had been having problems with the switch not working in all positions. I called the dealership to inquire about the price and availability of the switch. The parts dept. Informed me that it was most likely the fan resistor or the plug because they have had several that needed replaced. When I looked under the dash I found what had been causing the smell. The resistor showed signs of being overheated and the wire harness was burnt for approximately 6 inches. This is a fire hazard and it is only a matter of time before someone is either injured or killed due to this defective resistor/plug.

At around 37,000 miles the speedometer started sticking and around 45,000 miles it completely went out and has been stuck at 120 mph ever since. I took it to the Chevy dealership and they told me it would cost around $800 dollars to fix. I called and complained to GM customer service, at which time they did nothing but told me to take it in and get it repair at my expense. I haven't had the money to have it repaired so far so I have been driving without it. I think Chevy should recall the instrument clusters and fix the problem at their own expense.

The speedometer would stick anywhere above 60 whether I was at a complete stop or not. This went on over a year because Chevrolet said not enough complaints were issued. I almost got a ticket just going with the flow of traffic so I paid almost $500 to have it fixed. Not safe at all in school zones.

I own a 2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 pkup [xxx] and have been experiencing speedometer inaccuracy readings. When the problem started, I was traveling 70 mph and the speedometer dropped to 0. then when traveling 40-50 mph the speedometer would not exceed 20 mph. After noting the problem, I have contacted 2 local auto repairs that referred me to the GM dealer to address the problem as I was advised GM was aware of the issue (instrument cluster failure) and had issued a special coverage adjust. After contacting the local GM dealership, I was advised that I should contact GM cust svc as they were aware of the problem and unfortunately my vehicle had exceeded the mileage qualification. The dealership confirmed that they did not agree with GM's policy to only repair vehicles with 70K or less and said the issue should have been a "recall" but that GM would have had to repair all vehicles and instead they chose the course of least resistance. After dealing with 2 repair shops, dealership and GM cust svc, I was advised by GM that the repair would be my responsibility unless the dealership would agree to cover the charges of approx $700 and 2-3 days repair time. While trying to get this resolved, I was stopped by the local sheriff's dept and issued a tkt for 66 mph in a 55 mph zone at a cost of $175. I told the officer that I was only traveling 55-60 and made no attempt to slow down as I had no reason to assume that I was speeding. The long and short of the issue is this is exactly what I tld the GM customer service rep could happen and I considered it a safety issue as it appears the speedometer continues to provide inaccurate reading until I can get the matter resolved. The dealership supports my position as they are aware of my efforts to resolve the issue. I am appalled that GM is taking the same approach as Toyota in trying to minimize the problem instead of fixing the problem. Based on pending action...no more GM. Electrical fire hazard that affects the heater, air conditioner, cruise control, ABS, and brakes on 2005 Chevrolet Silverado model trucks. A short in the electrical system is common on these vehicles and know by the dealerships to effect multiple points as a direct result of a short in the electrical system which could lead to an electrical fire or serious injury from system failures. Items that are affected include but are not limited to fuse box, wire harness, wire connectors, the heater/ac blower motor, fuses, relays, and many other parts. The system short that occurred in this vehicle was identified by the dealership without even seeing the burned parts.

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the dual climate control on the air conditioning/ heating system failed on an intermittent basis; when he had the heat on, one side would blow hot air and the other side cold air and the same failure occurred when the air conditioner was on. He had to drive onto the emergency lane, turn off the engine, and re-start the vehicle. The dealer refuse to inspect the vehicle since the warranty was no longer valid. The electrical connector on the floorboard would also fail causing the fan to stop working; the heating system/air conditioning system would not function without the fan. He replaced the connectors at his expense twice and the connector failed again. He called the manufacturer and a representative told him that they could not assist him. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The current mileage was approximately 61,000. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

I have a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado that has 2 main issues with truck. The first on is dealing with the air condition system. The relay for the fan motor directly under the dash burnt, and after doing research on the computer I found that this was common with this year model Chevy. I called the Chevrolet hot line number and there were no recalls on this part. I then went to the dealership and found out that they had replacement parts in stock due to the frequency of the part being purchased. This part was replaced and 2 months afterwards the air conditioning and heat went out again, but was not the same part. This time the fan motor was diagnosed as the problem. I have not fixed this part due to myself not feeling it is my obligation to spend several hundred dollars fixing stuff that is common throughout truck of the same year and make. This part that was replaced got very hot and smoked when going out. There is definitely a safety issue with this part catching on fire and my child not able to ride in my vehicle during hot summer months due to parts messing up constantly. By the way no fuse every burn up in this process until after fan motor went out. The second issue I have is the instrument cluster on my truck. The engine hours meter has reset twice now which wasn't a big deal, but the gear selection on the dash is now starting to not work properly. I recently went to leave from work and went putting the truck in drive the indication on the dash stayed in park. The truck was in gear though because I didn't realize that this had happened until after getting on the road. I pulled over and went back to park with the shifter. After doing so the indication worked. I am afraid that this will start happening more frequent along with the engine hours clearing. I am sure something else is to follow that could be major to the drive train due to the excessive electronic technologies on vehicles now. Thank you for looking into these problems.
