2005 Chevy Silverado 1500. After my vehicle was towed the speedometer stopped working. It reads 16 mph while stopped and stays 16 mph over whatever speed I'm traveling. Chevy needs to do something about this. Too many people are have the same issue.
I also have a 2005 Silverado an the speedometer is stuck at 120 it has gone down as far as 60 but when you drive it pegs out and remains there. There were no warnings just happened around 82,000 now at 86,000 and 6,000 miles out of warranty. I feel that this is a safety hazard because I don't know my speed but I am lucky enough to have been given a gps to do that. I looked at GM website but they say I am over mileage for repair and I don't have the money for the repairs myself an feel this should be remedied by the manufacturer since it is a well know problem of theirs and this defective equipment.
1. speedometer stopped working creating unsafe driving condition. 2. appears to be permanent breakage. 3. GM agreed to replace faulty part, but I still had to pay for labor. They agreed that the part is faulty yet still hold the customer financially accountable for their unsafe mistake.
2005 Chevrolet Silverado gauge cluster is defective and is malfunctioning at 75,000 miles on the vehicle. Creates an inability to determine speed or operation accuracy of the vehicle. No notice from GM concerning recall. My research indicates multiples of this defect occurring nationwide.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving the speedometer displayed an inaccurate speed on the instrumental panel. The vehicle had not been inspected by a dealer or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000. The VIN was unavailable.
Last week I smelled something burning in my truck. Investigated and found insulation was melting off heater blower wires at plug under dash. Three of the wires had a half inch of exposed conductor showing at pigtail. At same time, my heater fan switch quit working at the two highest speed settings. After researching this problem on internet, I had to replace blower resistor and wire pigtail. Fan switch works now, but vent selector switch doesn't work now. Melted wires could have caused truck to catch on fire. I have old resistor and melted pigtail.
2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 approx 92,000 tack and fuel gauge failed. Prior to 92,000 tack would intermittently jump between 0 and 2,000 RPM but return to normal shortly afterward. This started around 85,000. Now it stays at 6,000 RPM and doesn't move. Fuel gauge is a complete failure and not accurate at all.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While having the vehicle repaired by an independent repair shop for an unrelated issue she noticed that the speedometer was not functioning. She was advised that the failure occurred within the instrument cluster. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 90,347.
As we were driving down the street black smoke started to come out of the air conditioning vents. Then I noticed flames and melted plastic coming out of the bottom of the glove box area. We pulled our child from the burning truck and called 911. Fire trucks were there in less than 4 minutes but by that time the entire passenger cab was engulfed in flames and there were at least two separate explosions that blew out all the windows, my husband thinks that the airbags exploded. The truck is a complete loss and we are lucky to have escaped with only minor injuries. We could have been killed or seriously injured.
It seems I have the same issue as most the blower works randomly. I have also smelled smoke. The blower stays on after the car has been shut off and I have exited the vehicle. Second time I have had issues first time was covered by warranty.
I have a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado. I kept smelling an odor of something burning but could not find where it was coming from until recently when my fan motor stopped working. I had been having problems with the switch not working in all positions. I called the dealership to inquire about the price and availability of the switch. The parts dept. Informed me that it was most likely the fan resistor or the plug because they have had several that needed replaced. When I looked under the dash I found what had been causing the smell. The resistor showed signs of being overheated and the wire harness was burnt for approximately 6 inches. This is a fire hazard and it is only a matter of time before someone is either injured or killed due to this defective resistor/plug.
Chevy 05 Silverado speedometer quit working. Apparently this is not uncommon with this truck and needs to be repaired by GMC. I am not good at judging speed and will be prone to being ticketed.
2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. Operated ac and started to smell something burning coming out of vents. Researched online and identified several other complaints with same issue. Contacted Chevrolet and they stated there is nothing they can do to assist.
At around 37,000 miles the speedometer started sticking and around 45,000 miles it completely went out and has been stuck at 120 mph ever since. I took it to the Chevy dealership and they told me it would cost around $800 dollars to fix. I called and complained to GM customer service, at which time they did nothing but told me to take it in and get it repair at my expense. I haven't had the money to have it repaired so far so I have been driving without it. I think Chevy should recall the instrument clusters and fix the problem at their own expense.
The speedometer would stick anywhere above 60 whether I was at a complete stop or not. This went on over a year because Chevrolet said not enough complaints were issued. I almost got a ticket just going with the flow of traffic so I paid almost $500 to have it fixed. Not safe at all in school zones.
