Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact stated that the heat would not activate on the high setting. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the heater switch was found to be melted. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure recurred several years later in which the heater switch overheated and caused the dashboard to catch on fire. The contact did not sustain any injuries. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.

The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the heating and air unit actuator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The blower motor fan for the heat and A/C the wire connectors towards the passenger side under the dash glove box the wire is melting which is causing the fan not to work sometimes and you can smell it melting ( its the male and female connectors ) they plug into each other that's where its at. My truck is a 2006 Chevy Silverado its gonna end up catching the truck on fire. Something needs to be done its GM responsibility to fix the problem.

The second failure occurred October 2010. The contact called the manufacturer who took a complaint but offered no further assistance. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000 and the current mileage was approximately 51,000.
