The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the brake lines failed while exiting a residential driveway with a steep incline. The contact was unable to stop the vehicle using the brakes and had to utilize the emergency hand brake, which allowed the brakes to catch very slowly. The vehicle did not stop until it had reached level ground. The contact's personal mechanic confirmed that the brake lines were rusted and caused the failure. The failure and current mileages were 194,000. Updated 09/17/13 the consumer and his wife experienced brake failure, twice. His wife noticed something was wrong with the brakes. When she exited the vehicle, she saw brake fluid on the ground. The first time, the brakes failed, while backing out of the driveway.

The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact was driving 15 mph and applied the brakes when the brake line ruptured. The contact had to use the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic to have the brake line replaced. The contact stated that the failure was the third occurrence of the brake lines rupturing while driving. The failure mileage was 135,251....update 01/20/12 updated 02/27/12

The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. While driving 35 mph, the contact stated that he applied pressure to the brakes yet the vehicle continued to accelerate. He later discovered that the brake lines were rusted and replaced several of the brake lines. He was unable to repair all lines because it would require him to remove the entire bed of the vehicle. The contact did not inform the dealer or manufacturer of the failure. The current mileage was 69,720 and the failure mileage was 69,000. The VIN was unavailable. Updated 05/04/11

The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact stated that the brakes began to feel spongy when depressed. The contact was taking the vehicle to the dealer when the brakes failed completely and he had to utilize the emergency brakes to stop the vehicle. When arriving at the dealer, the contact discovered a large puddle of brake fluid on the ground under the vehicle. The mechanic inspected the vehicle and advised the contact that the brake lines were severely rusted and corroded. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 139,000.

The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact stated while applying the brakes in his driveway at low, unknown speeds, and the brake pedal fell farther into the floorboard than normal. The contact further inspected the vehicle and found that the brake line exhibited severe rust, a hole and there was brake fluid leaking from the brake line. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The contact purchased a new brake line from an auto parts store and performed the repair himself. The contact was a certified mechanic. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure and current mileages were 81,326.

My father, who is a mechanic, had a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado hd in perfect condition. On a Sunday afternoon with clear conditions, he was traveling to an apple orchard in Connecticut. Traveling about 30 M.P.H., he noticed a large vehicle backing out of a driveway. As a dump truck operator, he is well aware of the limited visibility in this particular vehicle and how difficult it would be for the vehicle to stop. So, he pushed the brakes in his vehicle and the brakes went all the way to the floor without any response. Realizing his brakes had failed, he immediately realized he needed to avoid colliding with the second vehicle. His quick response and experience behind the wheel allowed him to miss the second vehicle. He didn't want to hit the vehicle because he would have impacted the drivers side. Instead, his truck bolted into a stone wall, flipped and ended up in between two trees. His air bags never deployed. He landed in the yard of someone's home and the homeowner called the police. The police sited in his police report that the air bag failed and the brakes appeared to fail as well. My father ended up with a few scrapes and bruises and he is just glad everyone involved was alright. Chevrolet never took responsibility for this matter. His insurance company indicated that they would pursue legal action but it would be a long, difficult process. On the consumer protection website, it does indicate that Chevrolet had recalled a few of their vehicles because of anti-lock problems. However, the incident involving my father is due to entire brake failure. My fathers main mission now is to get the word out to prevent this from occurring to anyone else. As a mechanic, he always kept his vehicles in tip-top shape making sure everything was in good working order and free of dirt, debris or salt in the winter. It would be appreciated if you could look into this matter to prevent this unfortunate incident from happening to someone else.
