Complete brake failure when brakes applied in brake system. Pedal went to the floorboard without any warning or braking action. Rear brake line rusted thru above gas tank and expelled all brake fluid when pedal was depressed. There was no braking or slowing from any wheel. Fluid was all over tire and axle on the left rear. Lucky that I did not have any vehicles directly in front of me as I had to coast to a stop. Definitely reading the other posts on the web that this is no fluke and does not need to be a high mileage vehicle. Truck is not used for snow removal and sees limited driving during winter months.

2006 Chevrolet Silverado extended cad 4X4 had the ABS kick in at low speeds, when not needed. This was part of a recall for earlier model year trucks of the same make and model but was never fully corrected by GM.

Silverado 3500 8-cyl

  • 80,000 miles
On my 2006 Silverado 3500, when applying the brakes, as the vehicle slows to about 2-4mph...the ABS activates and the stopping force of the brakes is reduced causing the vehicle to miss the intended stopping point. I have replaced both front hub bearings which includes the front sensors as others have reported this cures the problem yet the problem persists. There are 80,000 miles on the vehicle, I have owned since new, there have been no accidents or abuse. There are no check engine lights, ABS lights or anything indicating a fault. On the internet, there are many complaints just as mine. These vehicles are a public safety concern because there is obviously an acknowledge problem due to a recall of previous years that use the same technology. I feel the manufacturer needs to come up with a remedy for this defect in design.

The ABS system in my 2006 Chevy Silverado does not function properly at low speed. The ABS activates when braking causing the vehicle to travel further when coming to a stop. After researching the problem on the internet I found that this is an ongoing issue with GMC vehicles.

2006 Chevy Silverado truck front ABS antilock sensors failed due to corrosion GM had a recall 08/30/2005 for same problem on 2002 models, they knew about this in 05 (when my truck was built) but only admit to 2002 models NHTSA campaign # 05V37900 - think this needs to be extended to all models they built this way.

The ABS on my 2006 Silverado activates on low speed stops on dry pavement causing the brakes to release. I have almost rear-ended vehicles because of this. The dealer says I have to pay to get it fixed. I've been out of warranty for only 2 months and there's only 19,000 miles on the truck. There's a Chevy tech bulletin out on the problem too. Why hasn't there been a recall" how can I get the dealer to correct this flaw in their ABS system without paying $700"

In Nov. Of 2005 I purchased a Chevrolet Silverado, I have had nothing but problems with it. I have had the rear brakes and rotors replaced 3 times and the front once, also the fuel system had a problem, now they tell me that I need all tires replaced because the compound is bad. My truck only has a little over 7,000 miles on it!
