CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2012 Chevrolet Sonic is fairly new & is already showing an early trend of transmission problems.

Owners report hesitation when shifting & grinding/hard shifting into gears. Some dealers are calling the condition "normal". Another owner reported his dealership replaced the transmission under warranty, but the new transmission had the same exact grinding problem. Design defect?

I PICKED THE CAR UP AND NOTICED THAT THE SEAT WAS VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. I FIGURED THEY WOULD BREAK IN AND THEY WOULD BE OK.....BUT THE SEAT CUSHION IS COMPRESSING AND I AM HITTING THE PLASTIC ON THE SIDE OF THE SEATS. I AM 5'9" 230LBS. I HAVE RESORTED TO SITTING ON A PILLOW. HAVE NOT BEEN TO THE DEALER YET I WILL GIVE IT ANOTHER WEEK.

Sonic LT 1.4L Turbo

THE SEATS WERE UNCOMFORTABLE IN THE FIRST 8 HOURS OF DRIVING THE CAR. I FIGURED THEY WOULD BE BETTER WHEN THE BROKE IN. I DO NOT THINK THAT IS GOING TO GET BETTER WITH BREAK IN. THEN I NOTICED THAT THE SEAT IS VERY NARROW. I AM 5'9" 230LBS. I COMPRESS THE CUSHIONS TO THE POINT THAT I AM SITTING ON THE PLASTIC. IT IS VERY PAINFUL. I AM NOW SITTING ON A BED PILLOW. I AM GOING TO THE DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF THEY CAN GIVE ME SOME HELP.

Sonic LS 1.8L Ecotec

  • Automatic transmission
  • 54 miles

I am on disability,I am not a large woman, but 5ft6 and I am scrunched in this vehicle. my physical therapist said take the car back seeing me getting out in pain. But Al Serra doesn't care, its a car sale. There is no return unless a dealership has some real customer service and that's gone since the 70's.

Plus disability rights really there, and none unless I'm on a feeding tube.
