CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2012 Chevrolet Sonic is fairly new & is already showing an early trend of transmission problems.
Owners report hesitation when shifting & grinding/hard shifting into gears. Some dealers are calling the condition "normal". Another owner reported his dealership replaced the transmission under warranty, but the new transmission had the same exact grinding problem. Design defect?

On 11 July 2016, whilst stopped at a traffic light at night, our 2012 Sonic with 31,039 miles, shut down completely. The engine stopped. Both the headlights and control panel lights went dark. Fortunately, the hazard flasher did work. After a little delay, we were able to start the car. We took the car to the dealer the next morning. There was no error code stored from the incident and absolutely nothing at all came up in a comprehensive diagnostic. Having no clue as to what happened or how to prevent it, we are left wondering when it will happen again and how dangerous a circumstance it might put us in.
