I was driving along at about 25 mph when the engine quit. All lights stayed on, the battery and starter were functioning fine but the warning light said "Low Fuel" and the gas gauge was on empty. I know for a fact there was a full tank of fuel minus 1/8. The door locks clicked on when trying to turn over the engine. AAA tow guy said he thought it is probably electrical. It is late now but will try starting it in the morning and if it doesn't turn over, I'll try disconnecting the battery and hooking it back up. Tracking down an electrical problem sounds expensive. since there are three other posts with similar complaint, I take this to be more than an age related problem. Since steering is power, it makes for a dangerous problem.

I bought my truck new (one owner). I have had all maintenance done over the years, and it has been a fine truck. This past winter, a new problem began. It started by killing the engine while driving, but also would sometimes fail to start. Charge is fine, battery is newer, voltage indicator is normal, and the sound when I turn the key is fast and normal - it just won't start. Was killing when I slowed or accelerated. Replaced fuel pump this spring. Still kills at idle, and sometimes won't start. Just letting it be a few minutes self-corrects. I can hear a buzzing in the overhead cellphone mic, so I think it is an electrical short. Have not confirmed. Going to another garage for diagnostics. Very scary when it killed while in a left-hand turn lane!

Suburban Chrome V8, 8.1L

My 2002 Suburban 2500 has had only one owner (me.) It hasn't had any problems until this year. In July 2010 the engine shut off while driving at approximately 20 miles per hour. I had the battery replaced on July 13. The same problem just occurred today. I was again driving at approximately 20 miles per hour and the engine shut off. I had the kids in the car again. This has been a vehicle that has been taken care of...regular maintenance, never in an accident, good gas and garaged. It was purchased to tow, however, we have never used it for that purpose. I am wondering if this is a bigger electrical issue and if anyone has had similar issues with their vehicle.

The engine will just cut out at most any speed including highway speeds. All electronics are lost including power steering and brakes. Oddly enough, the motor did restart while coasting to the side of the road but the majority of the time it requires to turn the motor off and wait a minute or two and restart.

Also experience at the same time the locks flipping up and down and the drive indicator switching back and forth. It seems like a definite electrical problem.
