CarComplaints.com Notes: Engines shouldn't need a new quart of oil every 500-1000 miles, but for thousands of Suburban owners that's exactly what's happening. Engine oil consumption on aluminum block engines with Active Fuel Management (AFM) is out of control and owners are left looking for answers.

The most likely culprit is an uncovered AFM valve which, in many cases, can be covered under warranty. The problem is the issues don't stop there and many owners have been told by GM just to buy a new engine. Take one guess who they want to pick up the tab.

Suburban LT 5.3L

  • Automatic transmission

water leaked into floorboards after suburban sat outside overnight during rainstorm. Just did happen before warranty ran out, dealer hires out this type of repair and it had to be taken 3 times overall during the next 3 months before it was corrected. Now the daggone sunroof is leaking, they say it is again a seal problem but I don,t see a thing wrong with it. It looks to me like the mechanism that operates it is not pushing it up tightly against the roof allowing the leak. Every time the vehicle is out in the rain it stinks inside, guess I am going to caulk it up!
