The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe. While driving various speeds, the brakes would seize and release without warning when the brake pedal was depressed. In addition, the vehicle shook violently. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact then took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the ABS failed and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

Brakes lock up & release suddenly at speeds under 45mph while coasting or accelerating. Brakes, rotors, & drums all replaced. Problem continues to exist. When brakes lock, it usually chirps the tires and releases. This happens several times in a row. At times it will cause vehicle to skid to a stop. Brakes lock up without ever touching the brake peddle. As the brakes lock up & release it hits so hard that it throws passengers forward. This happens at random. At times it happens when first operating the vehicle & other times after operating the vehicle for a several miles. At times vehicle is operated for over 50 miles with no incident. Other times there are 10-20 incidences for every mile traveled. The vehicle has been taken to more than one mechanic on a multitude of occasions with no success. The brakes have never locked up while applying the brakes. No accidents so far but have had a close call. Traveling at approximately 20 mph on about 1/2" of snow, the brakes locked up and caused me to slide within inches of a guardrail.

ABS failure caused vehicle to travel further than it should have. There is a current recall for 1999 Tahoe for the issue of low speed ABS initialization but my VIN is not included in the recall. Every time I come to a near stop my ABS actuates and the car continues to roll farther than it would if the braking system were working properly.

Suspected defective ignition switch and/or ignition switch passlock security on or about Jan 17 2014 I was traveling about 30 mph when the engine stalled with loss of power steering and brakes. I was able to stop without incident. After 10-15 minutes I was able to restart the vehicle and drive as normal. For several years after driving the ignition key was warm or hot when removed from the switch. In early 2013 the engine would occasionally stall immediately after starting but would restart after waiting 5 to 10 minutes. On Jan 14 when at a gas station the engine stalled but I was able to move the car to the curb. After 10-15 minutes I was able to restart and drive normal. * passlock ignition security feature is widely reported to be a cause of these symptoms.

I was coming to a stop on dry pavement. The antilock brakes engaged at less than 10 mph and about 3 mph before causing a failure to stop in time for stop sign. Almost caused an accident by not stopping to avoid collision. No antilock light or fault code appeared. This a has occurred numerous times when driving forward or in reverse.. I also experience low brake pedal occasionally. Had all brakes parts replaced new or rebuilt. Brake system has be flushed and bled at least 3 times without a change in failure of antilock.

The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe. While driving approximately 15 mph, the brake pedal was engaged and the ABS prematurely activated. The failure occurred only at low speeds. The vehicle was taken an independent mechanic where both front and rear brake pads were replaced. The problem persisted after the repair was performed. There was a recall under nhsta campaign id number 05V379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock). The manufacturer was notified and they informed the VIN was ineligible under the recall. The vehicle had not been repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.
