Vehicle fails to slow down when accelerator is released. When releasng the accelerator I notice that tachometer remains at the same RPM. At first this trouble was intermittant but has progressively failed more often until now it is continous. The only way to slow the vehicle down is by braking using the vehicle's brakes. When the engine braking was working ok, about two seconds after taking your foot of the accelerator it would slow down properly. I contacted the dealer on 2/22/2001 and he supposedly took it for a test run, however, the odometer in and out were identical, 26528 miles. When I contacted them again, their latest response was that they all do that and there is nothing I can do to have it corrected. I feel that if the problem is not corrected shortly it will cause premature brake failure because of excessive braking which could lead to an accident.

When the gas pedal is released the car continues at current speed for 5 to 8 seconds before decelerating. The tachometer reading does not drop during this time. This happens at highway speeds and driving around town speeds. It's scary. It will decelerate and the tachometer reading drop when the brakes are applied, but I'm never sure.

When taking foot of gas pedal vehicle will continue at current speed without slowing down. In order to slow vehicle down, consumer must apply brakes. When consumer took vehicle to dealership, they installed an idle air control valve which corrected this defect for approximately 4,000 miles. "cruise" defect happened again, and the idle air control valve was replaced by a different dealership. At 29,000 miles, engine will back down approximately 5 to 10 seconds after the consumer removes foot from gas pedal. The dealer could not duplicate the problem and stated the condition of the vehicle as normal.
