1999 series Chevrolet Tahoe (several years before and after) have a serious wiring safety issue. Failure of the turn signal / emergency flasher switch can result in total loss of brake lights under all conditions with no indication failure has occurred. Brake lights required to work at all times, even when car ignition is off. Yet because Chevrolet has "looped" the brake light wiring "through" this switch, failure in the switch function for emergency flashers, results in total brake light failure, even with car turned off, yet the turn signals continue to function and drivers are unaware of the failure. Unfortunately, the local dealer also wants over $445 for the switch and $175 labor to change it out. This results in a very unfair charge to the consumer of over $600 to fix a malfunction that must be repaired for safety reasons, when a simple wiring change in design would prevent such an old "christmas tree light failure effect" completely. GM should be forced to recall such vehicles and make an alternate change in wiring to protect the brake lights from such failure.
