ABS/Traction Control wheel speed sensors corroded, causing the ABS to activate at low speeds and making it impossible to stop the car. This is the same issue as has been reported for other VIN numbers of the same vehicle; see Safety Recall 05068 Front Wheel Speed Sensor Corrosion, https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2005/RCRIT-05V379-8709.pdf. However, that recall was limited to vehicles registered in the "Rust Belt" states; it appears that as this vintage of vehicle has aged, vehicles outside the Rust Belt now are experiencing the same problem, suggesting that the recall should be broadened.

The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that when his daughter drove down hill and the brake pedal was engaged, the brake system failed to engage causing the driver to hit a person that was driving a bicycle. The vehicle went up a hill and the driver proceeded attempting to stop the vehicle but it went up a hill, rolled backwards into bushes, and crashed into a tree where it came to a stop. The police was present and a report was filed; the police report number was not available. The person on the bicycle was taken to the hospital and suffered unknown fractures to the body. The driver did not sustain any injuries. The vehicle was towed to the contacts father residence and he noticed that the brake lines were corroded and brake fluid was on the ground. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was called however there was a long wait time and a representative was not available to answer the call promptly. The approximate failure mileage was 166,000. The VIN was not available.

While driving my vehicle, I applied the brakes to stop at a traffic light, and the brake pedal traveled all the way to the floor. The Tahoe finally stopped after a much longer than normal distance. After inspecting the master cylinder, there was hardly any brake fluid remaining. I found that the brake lines were very rusted, and that the line going to the rear brakes was rusted through. This rusting of the brake lines should never occur !

In 2011 my ABS/brake light starting coming on took to dealership was told how much it would cost to repair. In searching online how to fix, I see a recall was given to salt belt states in 2005. I own truck since 2002. Told by GMC today the recall although it states salt belt states recall only affected certain VIN #'s is this correct" first owner lived in salt belt state and truck manufactured in salt belt. I see there are additional GMC products with same problem. Why don't they repair"

The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while attempting to come to a complete stop, the ABS system disengaged causing the vehicle to lunge forward. The contact stated that the ABS system would re-engage if the brake pedal was released and then depressed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but the failure was unable to be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact also stated that while driving at various speeds, there would be an abnormal noise coming from the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle would veer to the left. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the hub bearing assembly on the drivers side of the vehicle needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, however the failure recurred on three separate occasions. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds for a period of time and then turning off the vehicle, a burning oil odor would come from the vehicle. The contact stated that while having the vehicle serviced by an independent mechanic, it was informed that there was engine oil leaking from the main seal and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired, however the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.

Went to stop at stop sign at approximately 4mph and no brakes. The brake pedal went all the way to the floor without any resistance or hesitation. As a result of the brake malfunction I rear ended an elderly couple in a Lexus. Resulting in damage to their rear bumper plastic cover and more damage was done to my front end of the defective 200 Chevrolet Tahoe Z71 I was driving

Hello I am experiencing the exact symptoms described in GM recall 05068C "these vehicles may have a condition permitting corrosion to occur between the front hub/bearing assembly and the wheel speed sensor. If the brakes are applied while the vehicle is traveling at a speed of greater than 6 km/H (3.7 mph) but less than 16 km/H (10 mph), the corrosion may cause an unwanted antilock brake system (ABS) activation. If this condition occurred where stopping distance is limited, a crash could occur. " however, my VIN is not included in the breakpoints, even though I have a 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe. I can demonstrate that this is the problem in two ways, first by reproducing with a scan tool that shows unexpected ABS activation during stopping at this low speed, and second after pulling the ABS fuse this problem does not happen. This clearly points to the ABS issue mentioned in the recall. I have contacted two local dealerships, and after I asked about recalls they said my VIN was invalid. Then I contacted the Chevy contact center and they said there are no recalls for my vehicle. So now what - should I just replace the ABS sensors and move on, or is there any chance of getting this acknowledged by GM as part of the recall?

Driving to gas station prior to going on vacation, applied brakes and peddle went to the floor with no warning lights on to indicate failure of the brake system. I found brake tubing failure on rear drivers side. The tubing is so rusted that it can not be repaired and must be replaced at a dealer the cost is around $3000 for all new brake tubing, probably why GM has not fixed the problem it's a big money maker.

It wasn't an accident, I was driving my Tahoe and stopped and got out when I got back in and started driving I put my foot on brake and it went to the floor, at the time I did not know my brake line had busted. It was very scary for me. No warning light went on till I was almost home.. we took it to a shop to hear the brake line had rusted through. I sending this complaint do the fact I heard on the news that this has become a problem with this Tahoe. We were planning on leaving that evening with our camper. Its a good thing it happened before we left otherwise there could of been a serious accident pulling the camper and not being able to stop. Please look into this matter.

I was driving at roughly 45 mph on a public road when I was cutoff by another vehicle who also nearly came to a stop. I quickly brake and while the brakes did momentarily work the pedal then became very soft and fell to the floorboard. The offending vehicle then made its turn or I would have hit them. I limped the vehicle home where I found a busted brake line due to bad rust. This is a very dangerous situation.
