Tracker 2.0L

This vehicle was excellent for years, just the regular routine maintenance issues and body issues (because of the Tracker being a cheaper quality vehicle).

when driving for a period of time in heavy stop and go traffic or when humid the engine starts rattling extremely rough and stalls. with a few back fire noises. I can drive it on the high ways fine but when i slow down it will then stall.

Very annoying seeing as the vehicle has low kilometers (180 000)

Update from Aug 4, 2012: After waiting 20 minutes it starts fine like nothing happened. in winter it runs ok. no mechanic can figure this out either for some reason.

Tracker 2.0L

  • Manual transmission
  • 102,000 miles

I have read several complaints for the exact same problem. engine runs rough and just stops. when opening the hood smoke pours out even tho it does not show hot on the instrument panel. Wait 15 minutes and starts up like nothing happened this happened twice in one day. You would think Chevrolet would come up with a fix. I'm afraid to drive the car more than a few miles at a time which is useless.

When the weather is hot (I live in Florida) the engine will periodically run rough and then quit while cruising. I then find a shady spot, let it cool for 5-10 minutes, and the engine starts like nothing is wrong. Usually, this happens only once a trip, but if you stop somewhere, shut off the engine, and then start it again, you can expect the rough running to happen again. Seems to happen more with AC on, but happens with it on or off. Overcast days are good in that it never seems to happen when it rains or the sun is blocked.

Below is a chronological list of events that may lead to an answer: -October 2004, my service engine soon light came on. I was told it just needed an oxygen sensor, but that I could run it for years without replacing it. -May 2006 whenever I would run a long distance with my air on, my car would not want to start for about 30 minutes. -September 2007 whenever I would run the car with just the outside vent on, the car would not want to start for about 30 minutes. -March 2008 whenever I would run the car the 15 miles between work and home, it would not want to start for about 30 minutes. -April 2008 I discovered the compressor on my air conditioner was bad -June 2008 I had the oxygen sensor replaced and the service engine soon light still comes on. -July 2008 whenever I would idle, be it in a drive thru, a red light or in my yard, I would hear a click, and then the car would cut off. If I turned the ignition over, I get power, but the car will not start.

I have had the car checked by three repair shops and a dealer and NO ONE can come up with a DIAGNOSIS.

Tracker 4 DR 2.0

Engine will not restart when hot. Wait 15-20 minutes and it starts fine. Starts fine cold. Runs rough and then dies when idling in drive through line. Has stopped once in highway driving. Let sit 15 min or so and it will restart and continue to run.
