I traveled from Tn. to Florida and midway noticed a rattle noise and sort of a scraping noise while in low gear, and with the trans in neutral the noise was more pronounced with the clutch pedal up!! Once the clutch pedal was fully depressed the noise went away! One more thing, after parking overnight the noise was not there until the vehicle was driven a couple miles [warmed the trans lube ], then re occurred!!
This vehicle is driven daily by a responsible adult and was never abused and has regular maintenance!! It is a 03 4 door 4/4 Tracker with manual transmission 2L engine! Any help would be appreciated as I have 800 miles between where I am and home!! Would it be safe to drive it home in this condition or would the trans destroy itself if driven in this condition ??
