CarComplaints.com Notes: The Trailblazer emerged from an "upscale trim line" of the Blazer, but there's nothing upscale about its transmission problems or its wonky, unpredictable headlights.

The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer. While starting the vehicle, both front windshield wipers engaged independently. The contact stated that the wipers would not turn off as windshield wiper fluid sprayed over the window, obstructing the contacts view of the roadway. The failure occurred sporadically and the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact inquired about NHTSA campaign id number: 04V046000 (visibility: Windshield wiper/washer). The dealer had no information in regards to the recall and the vehicle was taken to a second dealer where she was advised that the recall was closed. She contacted the manufacturer and they advised her that they would get back with her. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 70,500.

The 2002 Trailblazer had a recall on the windshield wiper motor and the possibility of damage that water inside the motor could cause. The correction was performed by plugging a hole in the motor. My vehicle was also under a gmpp extended warranty. Shortly later, the wipers began to malfunction while on intermittent. They stutter and sometimes stop in mid stroke, unless on high speed. I researched the internet and found numerous similar complaints that were caused by water damage that had occurred. I inquired at the dealer about correcting and they stated that since the recall had been performed, they could repair the unit only if I paid for the repairs. The estimated cost was around $350. Additional internet research indicates numerous other complaints that have been corrected by opening the wiper motor and cleaning the contacts - a result of water damage, obviously caused even though the recall. I believe Chevrolet should recall this vehicle and replace the wiper motor rather than plug the hole as they did originally. I also believe Chevrolet knew their original recall (plugging the hole) would not last and motors would fail at a later time. Updated 04/12/10

Windshield wiper module: There have been multiple recalls on the windshield wiper systems on Chevy Trailblazers (three on my vehicle). My windshield wiper crawls to a stop when set on high speed in heavy rain, making it difficult to see and dangerous to drive. I have been told by the dealer that I need to replace the windshield wiper module at a cost of $350+ because it has a short in it, but it is not covered under the recall. This is a safety issue with a known defective part, yet the manufacturer is refusing to replace or repair the defect. Windshield wiper modules are closed systems and if mine has a short in it, it is because the manufacturer was faulty and moisture was allowed to get in.

: the contact stated while having a light bulb changed at the dealership, a recall was found on the windshield wiper/washer, #04V046000. Although no problems were reported, the dealer inspected the part. After the inspection the wiper/washer would turn on and off on its own intermittently. The vehicle was returned to the dealer. Updated 10/16/2006 - the wiper cover shorted and the switch had an open circuit.

Consumer received two recalls for the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer for windshield wipers and tail lights. Mechanic fixed the tail lights but did not repair the windshield wipers. The dealer informed the consumer he would receive new blades and that would take care of the problem, however those blades didn't work any better.

Noises coming from underneath the SUV, check engine light constantly came on and one night I was going around 55 mph my 15 yr old daughter, we heard a loud pop it sound like we had hit something in the road so I stop to see what it was, we saw nothing but the squeaking sound from under the SUV got louder some day later jumped in the car started the car and there was that loud sound again only this time the SUV would not move in reverse I could hear some spinning like noise so I took it to a shop and I was told that the transmission was striped out in reverse, and that some shaft had broken or something, the mechanic also told me that he had several people come in with the same problem the same model Trailblazer 2002 what hurt me so bad is this was my first brand new car, I only had it for two years, and if I every buy another car it want be from GM, I also had problems with my tailgate lamps, windshield wipers, steering column.

Vehicle type: 2002 Chevy Trailblazer. Brake lights, tail lights, and turn signals at the rear of the vehicle fail without warning. Light bulbs burn out in hours or days, rather than weeks or months. No signs of moisture in the tail light assemblies that would shorten bulb-life. The total light failure has happened 6 times in the past 3 months. No accidents, but several near misses. Have spent more than $150 in new bulbs for tail lights and brake lights over this time frame. Old bulbs do not always appear to have burned or broken elements, but have replaced them anyway for safety sake. Windshield wipers don't work when turned on, or come on when switch is in the off position. Dash lights all light up for no reason. Heater/air conditioner blower won't work, and power windows won't work when dash lights are lit. Took this problem to the dealer for repair. Said they couldn't find anything, but reset the computer just in case it was malfunctioning. This happened again on the way home from the dealer. Called them back the next morning, they said there wasn't anything else they knew to look at. This happens about once every other week and is intermittent. This part of the problem does not occur at the same time the brake and tail lights fail. Problems have been on-going since I purchased this vehicle in February 2004.

Purchased Feb 1, 2002. Since then have had nothing but problems. Had into 4 different dearlerships fixing many problems but after each visit another problem occurs. From tail lights burning out, windhshield wiper motor failures, instrument cluster replaced, heater control panel replaced once, memory mirror modules replaced 2 times, heated seat switches replaced 2 times, rear window defogger/replaced entire rear window 1 time, battery replaced 1 time ( said battery was at fault for current problems) battery was fine and charged me $ 150 for new battery that was not the correct battery replacement, exhaust gasket became loose/loud and had to be replaced, the fuel pump replaced because it just cut off as I was on the expressway going approx 65 miles an hour, I had to get to the side of the road quickly- had to be towed to dealership. Problem fixed, however after I picked it up then the current problem began. I could go on and on with the problems that I have had. Present problem is that whenever I turn on the heat it dies out with no warning---just stops and stalls. Dealership says they fixd it but upon pick up the problem still exists. Gone to pick it up 2 times, but when I start it and put on heat, it dies all over again even after dealership claims they fixed it. I live in Chicago and it has been a cold winter. Almost caused a crash on another expressway on way home from having the airbag sensor and a complete brake job done and all fluids changed. This vehicle is not worth $ 37,000 and I feel it is time that GM accept some responsibility for this lemon of a vehicle. It is my only vehicle and I am still paying dearly for it but lately cannot even use it as it remains in one dealership after another at my expense. I will not purchase another vehicle from GM. I need help and answers as I am not getting anywhere even with this vehicle still under warranty.

Brake and tail light on 2002 Chevy Trailblazer ext have failed on four occasions since leasing this new car on 5/24/02. Service people have been great in fixing the problems. This first incident on 11/6/2002 involved only one tail and brake light but the fourth incident on 11/21/2003 involved both tail and brake light. The failure comes without warning and only is noticed when a good citizen driver informs me. The latest incident was noticed when a driver almost rear ended me because both lights were out. Fortunately, the top (dole) light worked. The dates of the repairs are: 11/6/02, 8/7/03; 12/23/03; 11/21/03. In a related problem the windshield wipers and/or washers have faied on three occasions: 7/2/02; 11/6/02 and 12/23/02.

Electronic exterior rearview mirrors and power seat engage and operate by themselves. Dealership cannot fix the problem. The memory for the mirrors and seat would not keep their position. When the consumer entered or exited the vehicle the systems would reset to a new position. Occasionally they moved while the vehicle was in motion. The dealer has replaced many components but the problem still exist. The check engine light illuminated. The dealer replaced the oxygen sensor. The A/C control mode button became stuck and was noisy. The dealer replaced the A/C module head. The left windshield wiper chattered and skipped. The dealer replaced the wiper insert. The 4WD switch fluctuated between 4wh and A4wh. The dealer inspected the vehicle and replaced the transfer case select switch.

Windshield wipers fail to work. This has occurred 4 times in 12 months. Dealer has replaced the motor each time, but does not gurantee that it has permanently fixed the problem. This is a safety issue in that windshield wipers are required to drive during rain. Driver does not know of the problem until tyring to use the wipers. During heavy traffic conditions or sudden downpours, visibility is minimial until the driver can safely pull off the road.

2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer ltz; wiper blades chatter against windshield at any wiper speed except when on constantly, and with any amount of water on glass. Wiper arms have been replaced by dealer; I have replaced the blades. Vehicle has a water sensor on it that is supposed to activate wipers as moisture builds on glass. This sensor, the motor, or the relay between the two may be the problem. While this is not a hazard in itself, the chattering is a constant annoyance that can be distracting while operating the vehicle in rainy weather.
