CarComplaints.com Notes: Carrying the not-so-proud traditions of its 2002 predecessor, the 2003 has a handful of instrument panel malfunctions that can leave you guessing your speed, engine temperature or how much gas is left in the tank.

About a month ago, turned vehicle off for about 3 minutes, when returning to the car and restarting, noticed the radio did not come on, the clock did not illuminate. After arriving to destination, turned the vehicle off and the radio and clock began working again, but the clock had reset itself(like the battery had been disconnected). Occasionally, when turning on the turn signal-it doesn't blink, just stays lit up. I have checked for blown bulbs-they all are working properly. The radio station id (on the screen) seems to work occasionally. Last night, when the radio was on preset 6 (105.9) FM100 showed on the screen.

I own a Chevy Trailblazer ls 2003 and recently my dim headlights have been going out. I have replaced numerous bulb in the last 2 months and recently I have noticed that the headlight harness wiring has been shorted out and fried. The odd thing is that both dim headlight harness are fried. I maintain my vehicle fairly well and try to keep things in working order. I called the Chevy dealer and they said they have not had any complaints or recall of the harness. Two years ago I had a similar problem with the brake light system and finally after replacing a huge number of bulbs, the Chevy company recalled the mother boards on the tail lights. With the dim lights going out when ever they want, puts the driver and other drivers at risk. An example of this is on Saturday night on my way home at 8:30pm, I noticed that I did not have any dim lights. I was not in a position to get them fixed so I had to drive to my house (which-thank god was close) with my bright lights. This puts the oncoming drivers at risk of blinding and the driver is put in a awkward position for lights.

Consumer states that on six different occasions vehicle's brake system light came on and the vehicle shut down. Service department told him 4-5 different reasons for this, I.e. the tailgate module or vehicle speed module. They have a reading on the computer and they weren't sure which it was. Consumer has to wait approximately 10-15 minutes for vehicle to cool down and restart. Consumer took vehicle to dealer for this problem on July 9, 2004, August 26, 2004, and September 28,2004. Happened again on May 27, 2005, and June 2, 2005, and is currently at dealer for the same problem.

There has been an intermittent problem with the instrument panel not working. When vehilce is on the panel guages have no reading - show there is no fuel, battery is dead, seat belt is not fastened (when it is hooked up) parking brake is on (when it is not engaged) oil needs replaced light stays on for prolonged period, gear shift indicated bar does not show up to tell driver what gear vehicle is in. My vehicle has been to the service department three times. It is there right now. First service call - the remote start was disconnected to see if that was the problem - problem did not occur for again for approximately a week and half. Remove start was hooked back up and new starter put in that was on 11/ 23 problem with panel going out occured again on 11/25. Taken back to service on 11/29 still have not located the problem. Original service call was on 11/3.

The vehicle stalled without warning. When the incident occured the vehicle lost power steering and brakes. The vehicle would restart after sitting for 5 minutes. The dealership has replaced the ignition and the ground wire. They also upgraded the computer. The problem hasn't recurred since the ground wire was replaced.

Vehicle's dash gauges came on and speedometer started fluctuating after 35 miles driving and vehicle stalled out, not being able to restart. Computer was replaced by dealer. Problem arose again about a week later. GM had dealer replace another part in I believe the ignition key area. Check engine light came on again in a couple weeks and vehicle would not start for dealer after it was driven there. Dealer found wire connection in wiring harness to computer was not making continuous contact at a connection. Also dealer had to replace a switch when the A/C would work intermittently. Luckily I have a good efficient dealer and service department who cares about their customers.

On 7/26/2003, the owner heard the motor running while the vehicle was off. The owner disconnected the battery to stop the motor from running. This caused the owner to manually lock the doors but the hatch would not lock manually. On 7/31/2003, the vehicle was taken to the dealer who found a short in a wire under the hood and corrected the problem. Consumer stated there is no way to open the rear hatch if there is an electrical failure. There is no mechanical device to lock or unlock the hatch door. This could be a significant safety hazard.
