CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2002-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer is known for many things, but perhaps it is most famous for its faulty fuel gauge.

This gauge flip-flops more than a politician during election season. Some report that the gauge says "empty" after a fill-up, while others report the gauge says "full" when they're running on fumes. Either way, there's one thing everyone seems to agree on: the darn thing is just wrong.

Following hundreds of complaints and a few accidents allegedly caused by the malfunction, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an investigation into the issue in May 2011. Unfortunately for frustrated owners, no recall has been announced.

Speedometer began sticking at certain speeds and eventually just stopped working all together. It stays at 0 mph all the time now. I even received a speeding ticket in Feb 2010 because of this problem.

2005 Trailblazer alternator voltage dips alot as you drive. Radio does not work unless it is 100deg, then only one speaker works. Gas gauge reads empty after I filled up. Ignition is very hard to turn, you have to keep inserting and removing key until it frees itself.

Burning smell coming from the A/C. speed 4 and 5 both quit and now the whole thing has stopped working. This will be the third time is has been replaced and the dealer I take it to tell me this is a common problem on 2005 Chevy Trailblazers. Blower motor resistor is burnt out and the harness (which would cost about $200). They said that this was another common problem for this car model.

Speedometer on my 2005 was acting up and then stopped working all together...this is a safety issue. And it is amazing to me how many people have complained about this, and nothing is being done with this problem. My husband has a 2005 Chevy Impala and his speedometer stopped working and his gas gauge. Why is this continuing with Chevrolet...someone needs to put a stop to this nonsense. Oh...and by the way I have already had the cluster replaced just 2 years ago because of a winding noise and then a year later it acts up...hmmm...did they really replace it? take a look at this website for more complaints: www.carcomplaints.com/Chevrolet/Trailblazer/2005/electrical/speedometer_gone_haywire.shtml.

My 2005 Chevy Trailblazer ext 4X4 has a short in the electrical that runs the ac/heat fan. Chevy acknowleged there is an issue and have created a service bulletin on how to address the issue. But say it is up to the car owners to pay for the fix. This has caused my electrical wires to melt together and I can smell the smell of burning plastic almost everytime I drive the car and have on the heat for more than 10 min. I am afraid my car is going to catch on fire.

I have a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer ls and I have two complaints regarding part defects that should be investigated. 1. the speedometer sticks. I can be driving along and all of a sudden my speedometer is not moving at all. This is extremely dangerous being that I have no clue how fast or slow I'm going. 2. the fuel light gauge/sensor just completed stop working. The gas needle does not move at all, I have no idea how much fuel is in the tank. This is also extremely dangerous!. I have many friends that own Chevy Trailblazers who have encountered these same issues and I feel that Chevy should fix the problem. I have also read many blogs online where Trailblazer owners are complaining of the same issues so this is clearly a problem for thousands of Trailblazer owners. I hope that this complaint will help jump start an investigation of these defects, because it is a major problem! I have contacted my local Chevy dealer and they stated that it will be $1,200 to fix this issue.. this is outrages being that the problem is something that was caused by Chevy.

Fuel gauge started functioning erratically - would go from empty to full or just start going between full and empty floating around. Eventually it just stayed on empty even when I had just filled up. From the time the problem started till it stopped working was only a matter of weeks. Now my oil gauge stopped working also.

My speedometer stopped working while I was driving down the street near my house, driving at 45 mph when it went out. Since then it has not worked and I never know how fast I am going. I called Chevy because I had read online that GM is extending the warranty on quite a few cars and trucks that are having this issue and as long as your car has less than 70K miles and/or 7 years old they will fix it at no cost to the car owner. When I spoke to the representative she said that my Trailblazer was not included and then made me an appointment with the local dealer. Although it was nice to make the appointment I still have to pay the 200 dollar diagnostic fee and the 700 dollars to get it fixed. I see so many complaints online with my year and make that it is inconceivable that this is not a recall.

Just as so many other 2005 Trailblazer owners, neither my speedometer or gas gauge has worked for some time. I refuse to pay the cost to have these repaired at $500 + on a vehicle that I feel is still new. To deal with the problem, I purchased a garmin which will tell you what speed you are going and have figured out with my gas gauge that when I have gas, my low fuel light stays on and when I am getting low, it goes off. So I work backwards, when my low fuel light goes off, I fill my gas tank and monitor the miles I have driven. Why is GM not held responsible for this problem, it is obviously widespread.

My speedometer in my 2005 Chevy Trailblazer has started not working on occasion. It will work only after I turn the vehicle off and let it sit a bit. This is very disturbing to me due to the fact that I am a very safe driver and when this happens I feel I am a threat to others on the road.

The Chevrolet Trailblazer has a history of the gauge cluster in the dash being defective. It seems that many consumers are having problems with them going out. When this happens the fuel gauge and speedometer do not work. This is a huge problem and it seems that Chevrolet does not feel the need to help the consumers correct this problem. We have checked into the time an cost of the repairs and it is very time consuming and expensive for the consumer.

Happens every time I drive now. Already one speeding ticket- 55 in a 40 and I had no idea. 3. nothing done yet- dealer says cost will be $500+.

I just purchased a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer last night 1/25/10, today the speedometer and the gas gauge do not function. The speedometer rotates when it want all the way around the dial. The dealer states it is an as is car and they are not responsible. I researched today and found way too many complaints on this issue on this model. Why isn't GM adding this to their recalls on other models with the same issue?
