CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2002-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer is known for many things, but perhaps it is most famous for its faulty fuel gauge.

This gauge flip-flops more than a politician during election season. Some report that the gauge says "empty" after a fill-up, while others report the gauge says "full" when they're running on fumes. Either way, there's one thing everyone seems to agree on: the darn thing is just wrong.

Following hundreds of complaints and a few accidents allegedly caused by the malfunction, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an investigation into the issue in May 2011. Unfortunately for frustrated owners, no recall has been announced.

Gas gauge on my 2006 Trailblazer indicates that the tank is empty, does not provide an accurate reading even when the tank is full. This is extremely unsafe because it can lead to running out of fuel at any given time. Dealership indicates that the sensor is the cause and that this is a "problem" on these vehicles.

Fuel level sensor does not show correct fuel level in fuel tank. My 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer ls with 6 cyl. Engine only has 35,000 miles on it. Fuel gauge does not register the amount of gas in tank even when tank is full. This is a serious problem and could become a deadly situation if someone ran out of gas on the highway. GM needs to correct this problem asap. I have found over 200 complaints about this exact same problem with Trailblazers, Yukon, and various other GM vehicles. Please visit this web site to see for yourself. GM needs to correct this problem before someone gets seriously hurt or is killed. www.topix.com/alerts/forum/autos/Chevrolet-Trailblazer/th8ji6tepo3vrji3D.

2006 Chevy Trailblazer fuel gauge keeps bouncing back and forth and showing empty even after fill ups. From what I read it is a very common problem with these vehicles and deserves a recall.

I have a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer and about two weeks ago I filled my gas tank up and it did not register full. It now is very erratic. One minute it will read a level and the next few minutes it will read empty. I have read several complaints about this same problem on other 2006 Trailblazers and am wondering why there has not been an investigation or a recall. I am looking at a very expensive repair that I cannot afford. This is very dangerous because I could run out of gas and cause an accident whereas someone could be maimed or killed. I have a 5 year old that I Transport in this auto and if something happens because of this faulty gas gauge should General Motors be held liable for not fixing a problem they know exists??

I own a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer ls and the fuel gauge was working as advertised one day then the next day the gauge began to fluxuate, eventually to stop working all together. I have tried several fuel cleaners with no results. Have done tons of research and have found hundreds if not thousands of complaints of the same issue on several GM vehicles. Took the vehicle to the Chevy dealership and was quoted at $750 to drop the fuel tank and replace the pump and sensor wiring all together with so many complaints of the same issue this is unacceptable, please fix GM.

2006 Chevy Trailblazer with 40K miles. Fuel gauge defect. Gauge reads empty when it is full and causes the emissions light to engage. Online research shows a trend of the same problem with other 2006 Trailblazers. Dealership acknowledged a consistent issue, but no recall has been issued. Cost is $700 to replace sensor.

I have a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. Every time I fill up with gas, the gas gauge fluctuates goes up and down and the gas light and check engine light is staying on. I have searched the internet and there are hundreds and hundreds of people with this same problem. My Trailblazer has about 85,000 miles and I has been having this problem for about 2 weeks. GM needs to fix these fuel gauges and do a recall on it soon... what are they waiting on deaths or injuries..

The fuel gauge continues to fluctuate and stay on empty, causing me to run out of gas on the interstate. A policeman pulled up behind me and told me to report the problem. Its a safety hazard, had the policeman not been polite enough to sit behind me with his lights on, I would've been rearended.

Fuel sensor quit working around 40,000 miles and now the 4WD is no longer working at 43,000. I can't afford $3,000 in repairs and after looking at thousands of similar complaints NHTSA needs to demand recalls as these malfunctions are serious and can result in bodily injury or death.

I have 06 Chevrolet Trailblazer in which the fuel sending unit/fuel level sensor is bad which cause the fuel gauge to read empty all the time, also the check engine light to stay on, which has caused me to fail emissions so now I have to get it repaired which is going to cost about $600 and since my car is out of warranty this will have to come out of my pocket.this is money that I don't have. If you'll read all the blogs online you'll find hundreds if not thousands of the same thing happening. Chevy should be made to fix this problem!!! my car only has 50,000 miles on it there should be no major problems with it or so you would think. I think next time I'll buy a foreign car!!!

2006 Chevy Trailblazer was reporting an empty gas tank after filling up and when I drove a few miles it would go up to full then back down to empty. Gas light and engine light keeps going on. Now the gas light is always on and engine light has also been on for a day or two. Chevy told me it is not covered under my bumper to bumper warranty they sold me.

My gas gauge quit working around 48,000 miles. It goes up and down. I ran out of gas this morning. Did research on line and it looks like hundreds of people are having the same issues. Was wondering if there has been a recall" I know there was one for the 04/05 models. Everyone that I read said it cost them about $800. I can not afford that especially for something that Chevy already knew about. Shouldn't that have fixed before the 2006 models came out if they knew there was a problem with the 04/05?"
