CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2006 is the worst year for PT Cruiser engine complaints. Having an engine light on is annoying, but it's the complaints about the engine shutting-off while driving that really have us concerned.

PT Cruiser Touring 2.4L

I insert key into ignition and turn to start, nothing, engine does not turn over an no lites on dash are on( this is intermittent sometimes it startes ok) , I turn ignition key to off, turn key to on only, wait 10 to 30 seconds until the dash warning lites come on than turn key to start and it starts. If I turn key to on and wait for dash lites , all trouble indicator lits to come on before turning to start position it will always start, so far it has, could be ignition switch, or one of numerous modules.

This thing stranded my wife and 5yo!!!! Enough is enough!

During the warmer months (and there are several in Phoenix) the POS Cruiser will not turn over. Almost as if it didn't have a starter. Good power from the battery, all the lights worked great, just no starter activity untill I moved the shifter from P, to 2, then back to N or P.

I don't know if it's the starter or what is wrong. I get in my car, it starts. I drive to work, spend a couple of hours in the office. My car is sitting in the parking lot, in the direct sun (I don't know if that has anything to do with it). I get in my car, turn the key, the radio comes on, the a/c comes one, but the engine doesn't start. No sound at all, no clicking, grinding or anything. It doesn't even try to turn over. I go to the dealership, they tow it and get it to the service area, and it starts. It's been doing that for the last month. I've gone a week with no problems. Of course, it doesn't happen Whenever I take it to a mechanic. It never happens first thing in the morning, but it has happened about 6 times in the last month.

I've tried pressing on the brake, putting the car in neutral, putting it back in park. Nothing. Then for no reason, after several minutes of trying, it will start. And I'll have no problems for a few days, then it will happen again. This last time I was trying to start it for over 30 minutes before I gave up and went to the dealership.

It doesn't happen everyday. It sits in the same parking space everyday.

They can't find anything wrong with it. The next time it happens, I'm going to get my cell phone out and video it. I'm not crazy, because this last time, my husband was a witness. :)
