I had the same sludge problem. I am fortunate that I could buy another vehicle. I am now the proud owner of a 2008 Toyota RAV4. My only problem now is what to I do with a 3500lb silver pile of shit. I am tired of american auto manufacturers, sales tactics and service departments.

Just finished paying off my 2001 Chrysler Sebring that I've been walking past for more than a year now on my way to work. If I only knew when I was car shopping what I know now....
The car had plenty of oil in it when it broke down, but it now needs a new engine due to "Lack of oil" says the dealership. Freakin thing clogged up with sludge in spite of the regular scheduled maintenance. I just found this site while I was looking for a new motor to put in it so I might sell it and recoup some of my losses.
Other that the fact that the 2.7l V6 motor they use has a habit for taking a dump on it's owners, it was a great car! Awesome ride, very comfortable, and extremely good looking. I loved that car, but the love affair is over. I got soaked by this POS, and I'm not very happy about it.
It's grossly apparent that this is a design flaw on the part of Dodge/Chrysler. I'm not asking for a free replacement (it did have over 100,000k on it) but I think $4,000+ is a little steep for something that I had little or nothing to do with.

I bought a used car at Stokes Toyota here in town. I've had the car approximately 10 months and started to hear a knocking noise in the engine. I took it in for an oil change and was told that the knocking noise was coming from behind the timing compartment. I had a family friend (who is a mechanic) look at it and he told me that it was the hydraulic (spelling??) tensioner. Three weeks later, the knocking has stopped, but the sludge was so thick in the car that it took that long to soak all the parts and get the sludge out. Then to find out on the computer that it will happen all over again, and soon!

The whole Chrysler story since Iacoca, was as American as it gets. The situation with this iconic American company, turning their backs on thousands of Americans, who put their trust in Chrysler products housing the 2.7L V6, just turns my stomach!!!
