CarComplaints.com Notes: What the heck happened here? A year after getting our "seal of pretty good" for the 2004, Chrysler turns around and delivers this crapwagon.

This minivan has problems ranging from rack and pinion steering failure to door locks that won't let you out. And trust me, you'll want to get out.

Don't get me wrong I love My Chrysler T&C LX stow and go. I only have 4 problems with it. This one is for the Transmission and it scared the living crap out of me! Last night on my way home on the highway I went to pass a semi and got about half way around it and my check engine light came on and I heard a loud whining noise and next thing you know my RPMs were full blown and I was not gaining speed I was stuck and nowhere to go as car was approaching a head on collision. I had to SLAM on my brakes and pray no one was coming up behind us and get back behind semi!! He was blowing his horn and I was freaking out. I made it safely behind semi with seconds to spare before me and my 2 daughters would have been dead or smashed into trees. I pulled over and after catching my heart and putting it back in my chest, got out and checked tranny fluid. It was full as it is sitting there whining. I could not imagine what was going on. I got in and it took a bit for it to kick in gear but it did. Then it slightly slipped in 3rd on way home STILL whining. I went to auto zone this morning while still whining and slipping here and there and had codes read transmission MALFUNCTIONED. And gears 1 and 3 Malfunctioned TOTALLY defects somewhere. Still searching for answers!!

Town & Country Touring V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 62,000 miles

We have had several problems with our van to begin with. We bought it new and it has been a pain ever since, now the transmission has gone out. Chrysler will do nothing about it even though there are numerous complaints about this problem. If you have to buy a van, do not buy Chrysler or Dodge... buy Ford or Honda.

Town & Country

  • Automatic transmission
  • 51,000 miles

Transmission failed at approximately 51,000 miles. Chrysler said because I didn't have vehicle repaired at the Chrysler dealer that I bought it from, they would not refund ANY of the money for the repair. Transmission tech showed me failed components and engineering flaw. Tech showed where transmission fluid can not easily get to planitaries and ceasing can (and did) happen. My estimation is that a recall would cripple Chrysler so they are just putting their head in the sand regarding the issue. when I told them I am going to tell everyone I know about this and tell the BBB they did not care. Gee I wonder why they need bail out money. NEVER BUY CHRYSLER!!!!!!!!!!! Or Dodge because they use the same transmission from what I am told.

Town & Country

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50,025 miles

Engineering error on the fault of Chrysler. When I went and saw the transmission open in a million piece on the bench at the repair shop there were 3 other Chrysler transmissions being worked on at the same time by other mechanics. Then when I was leaving there was another Town and Country being taken off a flat bed being dropped off. The repair center primarily repairs transmissions so I am assuming it was same problem. This really was an EXPENSIVE lesson. I will be attempting to recoup some costs with Chrysler after I get the van back.
