Town & Country

  • 138,500 miles
2008 model year Chrysler Town & Country, approximately 138500 miles. Two separate incidents so far, one day apart. The first incident occurred while stopped at a stop light on July 18, 2015. The vehicle tried to lurch forward (foot firmly on brake pedal, no pressure on gas pedal) and the horn blared intermittently with no user input. The second incident occurred stopped in a parking lot on July 19, 2015. As the driver was exiting the vehicle, the horn began to fire in rapid, short bursts with no pressure on the steering wheel. The wipers activated, and the wiper fluid nozzles began spraying fluid. The air conditioning system also remained on with the key fully removed shortly before the incident, which is not intended behavior nor is it a feature of the vehicle in question. These problems are symptoms of tipm failure, and relate to the current NHTSA action number DP14004. I no longer feel safe driving my own car. I can't guarantee it will sit still in a parking lot, even without the key in the ignition.

This complaint is being filed in connection with NHTSA'a recall # 14V-373/manufacture's recall number R03. Summary: Chrysler's handling of the recall is essentially a shell game that is intended to mislead the NHTSA into believing that Chrysler is taking substantive action. Chrysler's most recent actions are a total scam. Customers are informed via mail that the replacement parts are available when in fact the parts are not available and the local dealerships can not order the correct part and have no idea of when the parts will be available. Chrysler's letter stating that the part is available is a lie. Backround: The original recall notice was sent to me over a year ago and stated that when the part became available I would be notified to bring the car to a dealership to replace the part. In late June of 2015, Chrysler informed me that the part was now available at the dealerships. On july14, I brought my car to the dealership only to be told (at the end of the working day) that they did not have the correct replacement part. I was told that they would try to locate the correct part and would get back to me early the next day. The next day I was notified that they could not find the part. Further, I was told that they can't place an order for the part and they had no idea of when the part would be available. Finally, they told me that I would have to keep calling the dealership to see if the dealership had received the part. So in essence, I have to call the dealership everyday to see if they have received the correct part. Chrysler is not living up to the deal they made with the NHTSA. I have experienced the condition that prompted the recall at least twice and reported it to my dealership. On one of these occurrences, I was driving on I395 through the district when the car just died in rush hour traffic.
