OMG was I ever pissed. Because of health problems I sold my very good sedan for this piece of crap van. Now I wish I never even thought of getting a "van" at all. I had heard of problems with the transmission on any model of Dodge Chrystler Pontiac or Jeep products, but I had in the past had some luck with used autos. So after some encouragement from my husband, I purcchased this caravan. WHAT A CHOICE THAT WAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First, I was driving down the road and the engine just stops. Yeah, fuel problems, but that's on another complaint. We figured that one out and were off and running again. So we were on our way out of town, get about 45 miles out and jump, shake, rattle and grind. Transmission GONE. We turned around and drove 45 miles back home, going 20 MPH. Honked at, even flagged down by a police officer. I was ticked off. So husband went to get it fixed. Luckily all they had to do is replace the governor (i think that's the part) and flushed the transmission. SO yeah all was fine, well not really. Now the stupid thing wouldn't shift by itself. Instead you have to shift from 2-3 manually. Figure that one out with a automatic transmission. PFFFT...Took it back after the said 3 weeks to give it a chance and they reflushed it. I think I could hear the mechanic every time I drove by laughing. Nope didn't fix. Every time I got into the van I would get mad at my husband all over again. NOW FINALLY WE ARE THROWING THIS "HUNKA HUNKA BURNIN' JUNK" OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOO...maybe this time some un-named spouse will listen to me!!!!!!!

Caravan

  • Automatic transmission
  • 89,951 miles

Driving with the kids on a vacation, transmission studders and stalls- no other warnings that the car was having an issue. Van ceases all forward momentum on busy freeway interchange without an emergency lane leaving all passengers (8 in total) stranded on the side of the road.

The transmission melted. A few moths after that, the engine died. I owned an 89 ford aerstar for 15 years. I'll never buy a dodge van again.
