The problem is with the serpentine belt. It can slip off. When it does, you power steering goes (safety) and your car can overheat within minutes. You are stranded. Putting the belt yourself is not easy, even with the diagram (thank goodness they have the diagram under the hood for other mechanics, do it yourselfers) there is a service bulletin, but not a recall. I think they put on a bracket which will help keep the belt on track in case of wet weather.

I took ownership of my used 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan in 2000, and since then have replaced minor mechanical failures such as the starter, water pump, serpentine belt, tires (twice), wiper blades, bulbs, brakes (twice) as well as the rotors. At present I am dealing with the following problems: Peeling paint, wipers engaging and not going off even though they are not turned on, hard jerks every now and again (possibly from transmission), and the breakage of a stabilizer bar bushing in the front suspension.

Right after I bought the van at 33,000 miles the bumper paint started peeling away and the paint on top of the back truck door, it's terrible and looks like hell. I don't think it's fair that I have to pay for it to be repaired! I have a warranty and they say it won't cover, I have heard Dodge has had a recall on some years of paint peeling

This is a report of a design defect in the Dodge Caravan. After discussion, Chrysler Corp. Has not admitted any issue and there is no recall applicable. The problem is the fact that the right front strut tower (supports vehicle) is rusting through. This is more than cosmetic and should not happen at any vehicle age / mileage. Ultimate failure will allow the right side of the vehicle suspension to fail with potential loss of control and loss of life. Even though this component has not failed completely on my Dodge Caravan, I wanted to make sure that the safety implications were understood and studied. Thank-you.

The two times we had failures with similar symtoms (horn, engine light, cruise, wipers, etc.... ) different parts were replaced. Recently we had another "fluke" with the wipers going haywire (starting on there own) but it has not done it again since.

Since I have had this vehicle, the air bag light comes on and will stay on thus I do not know if the air bag would work or not if needed. My cruise control alternates working and not as does the check engine light. Most of the time the check engine light is on and everytime I have had it checked, I have been told they reset it and everything look good. The computer does not show anything wrong. The cruise will come on sometimes and it will not at others. I think this vehicle as well as others I have talked to has a defect and I would like to see you check it out and have them do a recall and correct the electrical problems. I took my vehicle back several times during the first few months I had it for repairs and the same type probles keep occurring. My wipers will also at times come on with out being turned on. My sisters Caravan does the same thing.
