This is Crosslink again. After finding a competent front end shop, I now know the real deal. The dealer was totally wrong, had nothing to do with the rack. Rattles in front end were due to sway bar linkages (the front end shop could make them stop then start by disconnecting then reconnecting the linkages. It's really nice when someone gets to the bottom of it and can show you!) Sorry for the bad info about the rack the first time. My mistake was repeating what the dealer told me.

Normally costs about $800 in labor to repair rack. The dealer replaced mine under warranty not too long before my warranty expired, and said not to be surprised if the problem returned. It did. Was Chrysler hip-deep in rattley racks?

Caravan V6

  • Automatic transmission

After the car is parked for a short time, when backing up, my power steering shuts down! I have to tug and tug on the steering wheel to reposition the car and then suddenly the steering is fine! I have an EXCELLENT mechanic who cannot find the problem!! So, what do I do... is this car safe to drive??? Anyone with any input, it would be greatly appreciated.
