Challenger R/T Plus W/Shaker 5.7L

The low resonant thump coming from the rear of the car is annoying. It sounds very much like the gentleman from GA complaint except I only hear it upon deceleration with or without braking. It thumps 1 or 2 times depending on my speed. It's been back to the dealer for the second time, first was for one day, the second time is now going on three days and still no resolution.

The dealer told me they replaced the differential but that wasn't the problem. On day three they said a specialist from Chrysler Corp was going to stop in to investigate. Does this mean the techs at the dealer are not trained for this type of problem? The dealer was robbing parts from another Challenger that was on their lot but still no solution. After spending over $40K for this car, I refuse to take a "That's the way it should sound ...... " answer.

Before buying this Challenger I test drove several other 2015's and none of them made this sound. What will this do to the CarFAX on this car when time comes to trade? What will the fact that the rear was replaced do to the numbers matching if I should decide to keep it for a classic in twenty year? Not to mention the crap I have to swallow from my wife who was dead set against me buying this car in the first place.

Update from Feb 22, 2016: After 4 days at the dealer and a new differential, the thumping noise still exists. The Service Adviser/Manager said I should take the car home and come back in a month because they claim they found the problem, it's in the 8 spd transmission. He said Chrysler would be upset if they received a statement for a differential and transmission on the same invoice. In a month he would order a new transmission and replace mine. In the meantime the thumping appears to be getting worse, more often, but the same volume. I am reluctant to take my Challenger on any long distance runs, for fear of breakdown in the middle of winter.

Challenger ES 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission

I bought this 2015 Dodge Challenger off the show room floor in late October of 2015, I drove the car for two weeks and I started hearing a thump noise when the car was down shifting. I took the car back to the dealer and asked them to drive the car and listen for the noise, they did just that and told me they did not hear it so I went home. On the third week I was driving it again and the noise was still there so I took it back again and asked that the mechanic ride with me, and, as we started out the driveway it started making the thump noise on acceleration which was new. We drove the car about a mile and the car was making the noise on acceleration and deceleration now, the mechanic heard the noise and asked if I could leave the car with them. I left the car and two days later the mechanic called me and said they found a broken bolt in the rear end and they would replace the whole rear end. I said OK and one week later they called and said it was ready for pickup but the noise was still there, the mechanic said he call Dodge about the noise still being there.

The response that Dodge give the mechanic was the noise is within their tolerance and normal, since then I have called Dodge and opened a case and got a case number. I got a call from the Dodge case worker and they told me that the noise was normal and they could not do anything for me. The noise is loud enough to be heard over the radio, and I just don't believe this is normal. I love the car but I don't like hearing noises coming from the rear end that should not be there. I am at a lost and don't know what I can do to get this resolved.
