CarComplaints.com Notes: The first year of the new Dodge Dart had a rough start, with owners reporting a disproportionate number of engine and transmission problems.

For transmission, the main complaints are transmission failure & rough shifting. So far, average mileage for transmission failure is 25,000 miles. Not good.

For engine problems, it usually starts with the engine light coming on for any number of reasons: bad sensors, ignition coil replacement, bad wiring, faulty gas cap ... dealers are replacing various components with varying degrees of success, or telling owners they can't duplicate the issue.

A few things has been occurring regarding my car. The first thing is my check engine light has come on several times and when I got it checked, the car wouldn't start right at the dealership. The dealership was finally able to get the car started, however, they reported nothing was wrong with the car. The second thing and most scariest is my brakes. My brakes are totally messed up as they constantly lock and it's hard to press on the breaks. Therefore I do not drive long distances because I am afraid I won't be able to stop in time. I've taken my car to get diagnosed and they told me the my brakes and rotars are severely damaged and infact it won't pass the safety check in the state of NY.

After the recall on my car was fixed 3 weeks later I lost power to my breaks. The breaks made an air hissing noise, the pedal popped up and wouldn't depress more than 1/2 inch. I had to use the E-brake to get the car stopped from a low speed.

Takata recall, my 2013 Dodge Dart is part of the 15V-800 NHTSA recall. I received notification that my vehicle was affected by the recall. I received notification at the beginning of 2015, I believe, that the recall had occurred. I took my vehicle to the dealership and was told that they do not have the current part to fix the issue and they would contact me. I went in several months later and was advised of the same issue. In June of 2016, the gauges flickered but the vehicle turned on. Later on that day the vehicle did not turn on and the battery was dead. I replaced the battery. I went in for my regular oil change in December of 2016 and was advised that they do not have the part to fix the issue at the moment and would contact me. I informed them that this is the second time that this occurred. The dealership stated that I could not get the oil change unless I was able to keep the vehicle there to fix the issue. I inquired about getting a rental due to the fact of me not knowing how long the vehicle would remain at the dealership. I was informed that the dealership does not provide rental vehicles. Yesterday, I contacted the dealership to schedule an oil change and maintenance on the vehicle to have the recall resolved. I was informed that it is on a first come first serve basis. I went to turn on my vehicle and the battery was once again drained. I do not understand how a dealership can tell its customers that they do not issue rental vehicles when it is part of a nationwide safety recall. The dealership blatantly disregarded the my safety.

January 15, 2017 I parked my Dodge Dart in the parking lot. Upon my departure I was able to turn the ignition and drive around the bend to pick up passengers. Once I came to a complete stop my engine shut off, all service lights came on (mirror warning lights, check engine lights, dashboard shift indicator stuck on "drive" rather than "parked") and no power steering. The vehicle was in 'park' but continued to roll backwards. I was in a full parking lot at the beach on a holiday. Multiple people where lined up behind my car to park/ pick up their passengers. Had I not have to pick up passengers I would have ended up on a hill (the first turn out of the parking lot is a fairly steep incline) most likely causing a horrific accident. I believe the issue is the power train/ shifter cables. I have not felt safe in this car since ive bought. Nor has it been reliable. Brought brand new and I have been to the car dealership multiple times for recalls/ check engine lights and oil changes.

I purchased this car used from a Kia dealer. I haven't even had it one month yet. While driving one day backing out of a parking space my brakes would not stop. I went to push down on them and it felt like I was trying to push down a brick. It wouldn't budge. You could hear air as you hit the brake but nothing else. A brake light popped up on the screen followed by a car with a swirly line behind it. I almost backed into someone and almost wrecked my car. Thank god my kids weren't with me and no one was hurt.

The parking brake in the caliper failed to release with the disengagement of the parking brake on the driver's side rear brake. The result was that the rotor was super heated and after just 5 minutes, was glowing red. This started parked in my driveway, through my town to work. All in town on city streets. The car is currently at the dealership, calipers are back ordered.

Parking brake has been inoperable in lieu of galvanic corrosion on the rear brake caliper. The steel spring located at the rear brake calipers which regulates the operation of the emergency brake or parking brake has seized with its rotating armature. This started happening over a year ago and as of two months ago has completely seized. I first changed the rear brake rotors and pads in hopes that would fix the problem however, it only caused the rear emergency brake caliper to not release while driving. I had to pull over to the side of the road and completely release all of the parking brake tension through the handle adjustment bolt. Then I had physically push and pull the vehicle back and forth at which point the rear brake pads slowly released. I could not get the brakes to re-engage after, and have since discovered the spring assembly is seized on the rear calipers for the parking brake.

Takata recall - on 8/9/2016 I purchased this vehicle from a used car dealership. The gear shift/clutch skips, sticks, and jumps, whenever I move it from park to reverse or drive. This happens consistently. Also, the car was sold to me with a dry cable brake wire, which caused the vehicle to make a very loud noise. I reported these issues to the dealer that I purchased this vehicle from, they lubricated the brake cable wire, however, they said that this is normal for dual clutches to do this - skip, jump, and stick. Also, the vehicle hesitates to accelerate, and the dealer that I purchased the vehicle come said this is normal. This car had low mileage on it at the time of purchase (38,013), I have filed a claim against Dodge, because I think this is a major safety issue. Also, I discovered that the previous owner of this vehicle had experienced numerous problems since the time that he purchased this vehicle, which the vehicle had 0 miles on it at that time, and even he filed a claim against Dodge for the very same problems, plus for other component failures since the day that he purchased it.
