The oil pressure was dropping pretty significantly when heated up to normal operating temperature. There was little to no oil used. When the oil was changed I stepped from 10w30 to 10w40. It helped but the oil pressure still drops. I have gotten a few suggestions from various shops and parts stores. I have come to the conclusion that the main bearing, pistons and etc are fine because there is no oil used. That really only leaves the oil pump. What is the defect/recall dodge placed on 98-99 durangos entail, relating to oil pressure of course.

oil gauge drops to 0 even with regular oil changes.On our way home from a day trip for our cub scouts in a blinding snow storm no less,our check engine light came on and our oil gauge dropped to 0 and stayed there. We checked oil and put a quart in. Oil gauge continued to peg out at 0. Stopped several times to check. Oil was fine. A very nasty smell that still lingers after two days at rest occurred. We barely made it home when we noticed some smoke. Tried to start it the next day to work on it and it sounds like a locomotive train in my garage. I'm afraid to drive it and don't know where to start for a fix..We have also had problems with ball joints (expensive to fix)and transmission problems another costly fix. I will not buy another dodge. Oil gauge dropping has happened before. Dealer says they don't know what is causing the problem and charged me $300.00 just to look and put a new sensor in. This did not help!!!
