The power steering box on this year and model of Dodge is defective and the box actually cracks and splits open, causing you to use lots of power steering fluid.

Durango SLT 5.9L V8

I own a 1998 Dodge Durango SLT with the 5.9 Magnum. A few years ago the power steering started to leak moderately heavily. We took it to the local Pep Boys and they said there was nothing wrong with it. Next day we put a whole bottle in and it was gone in 3 days. So the following week we returned to the Pep Boys and they replaced all the hoses. Again, I poured a whole bottle but in a weeks time, without running a single time. Instead of returning to the Pep Boys, we found a Dodge Pro. He replaced the WHOLE system, pump, hoses, and rack. Never had a problem again.
