The problem is not being able to get in the back door for a passenger, you can't just open the door to put shopping bags, or even people in the back. You need to get in on the other side, and you also can't get out of the door, this is totally illegal here in Canada, you need to be able to get out of all doors in case of accident, etc, or what if you are in danger and are trapped in the car? I didn't even get a warning this was going in to a breaking mode, no weird noise or anything. I just couldn't get in from one moment to next...I had a 1993 Grand Cheroke Jeep, for a long time before I bought this as my main driver, and I have to say, there is nothing I can complain about that car, but I can over my Durango RT....

With this many people complaining on the internet, this site and others, about this problem, I think Dodge should have had a MAJOR recall. Once one started, they all went. Now the rear hatch is messed up where it won't even open. It's VERY frustrating! Maybe if everyone with the same problem called corporate headquarters, they would take a deeper look into the problem.

Durango 4.7L V8

My son bought the Durango, being completely aware of the problem with the right
rear door latch/lock, so I really don't know when it failed. It made a grinding noise
whenever it was activated, sometimes being able to lock the door, never able
to unlock it. Yesterday I removed the door panel and the latch/lock, and took
it completely apart to see what the problem was. It was due to a plastic gear,
hardly worth more than 1 dollar, half of its teeth being eaten away. The design
of the latch looks sound. My guess is that this gear was made poorly. Today
I purchased a new latch/lock for $155 (including tax) from the Dodge dealer, and tomorrow I will install it. Installation will be straightforward, thanks to detailed
instructions I found on the internet in removing the door panel. There is one
adjustment screw on the latch which fine tunes the opening of the door from the
outside. I plan to just match exactly the position of the lever on the new latch with
the position on the old one.

The door locks on this car are driving my crazy...started with the driver door, started making a loud & fast whirring sound when the door lock was used (and everytime the auto lock functions). Spent 300+ to get it fixed and then over time all three other doors started making the same noise. Now the right side back door won't even open. Got a quote of 700+ to fix them all. This should have been a recall long ago in my opinion.

The back drivers side motor makes a grinding noise, and the lock does not work. Now the front drivers side door won't lock at all. This needs to be recalled because I can't lock the vehicle at all. It should be Dodges fault if it gets stolen. My Dodge van locks also broke and my friends Dodge has the same problem. This is clearly a mfg defect..

Door lock actuators on the Driver's door, front passenger door and rear door (behind driver) have all failed. This happened shortly after we moved from Florida to NC during the cold weather. I have not researched the cost to repair at this point since the problem just happened.

The actuator on my automatic doors went out. They get stuck in a position (usually begins to occur in cold weather). The dealer said they weren't familiar with the issue and said they needed to replace all the actuators. I've had this replaced twice now and it is happening again.

My door locks on my Dodge Durango are now making a grinding noise when i try to lock or unlock my vehicle. when i unlock it to get in now, i have to lean over and manually lift the passanger side door. When i lock it, all the doors lock except the drivers door which i have to manaully lock. its a royal pain in the ass, and i found out from a local dodge dealer here, that its very common for the year of my durango. I wish Dodge would recall and offer to pay for this, because its gonna cost me big bucks to get it fixed. Im afraid of being in a accident ( GOD FORBID ) and not being able to get out or anyone get in.

Power door locks on front passenger side failed. My husband and I were unable to open the door, even when we tried to manually pull the lock up to disengage it. Absolutely need to be replaced otherwise passengers had to ride in the back, not easy with 2 car seats, or climb over driver seat and storage center to gain access to passenger seat.

All of the electric door locks failed. I have not visually looked at the componants as of yet. My guess is there are plastic parts in the door lock system that did not perform as expected by the Manufacturer. Poor design.

This is one of two major problems with this vehical. The other being Engine sludge

My Durango is having severe door locking issues. The locking mechanisms are so badly designed that they have worn out all of the door locking actuators. I've replaced all the actuators once about a year and a half ago and now they are going out again. Not only are the door locking actuators going bad (because of the pressure from a really bad design on the door locking mechanisms themselves), but now I have both front door locks that have completely broken - they won't move up or down. I've had the driver's side door panel off (doing this myself because we live in the UK and everything over here is twice the dollar amount) about 20 times trying to fix the door locks. The locks are simply done! I have no choice but to pay to have new ones shipped here to the UK so that I can make the attempt to replace them myself. This is just insane!

Door locks went out within a year purchased. I can't believe a SUV costing this much can have this problem so soon. If I knew then what I know now this piece of crap wouldn't be in my driveway.
