My 2000 Durango has started stalling while driving. Steering locks up and is hard to pull over to the side of the road. Has done this at multiple speeds and conditions of driving. Mostly happened in stop and go traffic. No prior warning to it stalling or losing all power. Once the vehicle is shut off it is hard to re-start again, at this time the battery, oil pressure, gas and temp gauges wont operate. I have had to wait up wards of an hour before the gauges will move and the car will restart. The gauge or dash lights never indicate a problem, not until the car dies will the check engine light sometimes come on. I have taken the car in and after 2 tries to fix it and $500 they said it was the computer. Now after 3 weeks of waiting and more money spent, they say the computer was rebuilt? and it still would die and wouldn't restart. Then they put in a new computer, I drove home, then never made it out of the driveway. Does anyone know what might be my cars problem, being a single mom with 3 kids I now fear for their safety and the costs I am spending on this car.

Engine failure oil problem orignal problem was fuel pump deal claims engine making noise and is also knocking. I have receipts from auto shop and over the counter for purchase of oil and oil filters NJ Dodge district mgr said it was not good enought this is a oil sludge issue we have kept up maintenance on the vehicle but Chrysler will not cover the repairs under the warranty. Other Dodge owners also have same problem related to all Dodge SUV and Dodge Dakota trucks. I also feel that if Dodge had change the oil they would replace the engine under the warranty.

The last oil change done by a friend found clumps of oil in the motor. Today I need a new engine. Apparently the oil pump was not working correctly from the beginning. The damage is major. It appears as though the oil had never been changed in my vehicle. My engine light never lid up, until the moment my engine came apart. I am out of warranty. Is there anything I can do to receive assistance from Dodge"???"

While on vacation and traveling up to 350 miles from home, without notice the oil pressure light came on and we heard a loud noise under the hood. We began to lose pressure and immediately pulled over and mange to find the only gas station/convenience store for miles. We called a tow truck and the vehicle was towed to the the nearest Dodge dealer ship which was approximently 35 miles away in morgantown, wv. After looking over the car the service manager along with his staff informed us that they could not understand the problem. They stated that they needed more time in order to try to figure out the exact problem because that had never seen anything like this before and because they were use to repairing Caravan. We had to find a hotel room for the night for my wife and two children. The next afternoon we received a call notifying us that the right side of our engine was gone and that it would take $6,000 in order to fix our problem. We did decided to try to get a second opinion and contact demler Chrysler prior to trying to pay for an engine replacement. When asked how could this happen, the dealer notified us that they did not know and that they had never seen this before accept in much older cars with hundreds of miles. We paid the bill for approximately $200 for them to tell us that our engine was gone, rented a car and made arrangements for aaa to tow our car back to Maryland which again was over 350 miles away. The vehicle arrived at our home approximately a week later and we discovered that the dealership did not put our engine back together but placed all the removed parts in the truck of the car. We notified the manufacturer by E-mail of this problem. They notified us that they would research this problem. This was about a week ago.

There was no warning, oil pressure light just came on and we lost pressure. Then there was a knocking noise under the hood. We had it towed to herb gordon Dodge, which said the engine was a total loss. I had to drive it homeand the engine light came on. I called fitzgerald to see if I was covered under warranty. They said bring it in, so I had it towed to the dealer. They said the warrranty wouldn't cover it because I could not produce 15 maintenance receipts. I had a full service engine flush at 32,727 miles. They did not care, but said they could give me a new engine at $6000 or a patchup at $4200. The service manager also offered to put me in contact with a company that will finance engines.
