I was driving my 2001 Durango when I parked I smelled a burnt rubber type smell. Then all of a sudden my front left headlight caught fire. I had children in my truck by the time I got them out, note one was handicap, my car was in flames about two feet back into the hood area. I thought this was due to a prior accident but then later realized that there is a short in the wiring to the dashboard lights then today on here realized this happened to someone else! I think Dodge should pay for my wiring to be fixed my insurance already paid for damages. I want to know if anyone knows of a wiring recall for this model Durango ":with out bench seats" I found one for the kind that has bench seats.

On December 30th, my daughter returned home to tell me that while she was driving our 2001 Durango, all of the panel lights went off in the vehicle and there was a burning smell. She and my son inspected the dashboard and under the hood to no avail. We promptly made an appointment to have our Durango looked. The vehicle never made it to the shop! Twelve hours later, my son had taken the truck to work and within fifteen minutes of his arrival he was informed he should come quickly to the parking lot where he found the fire department pulling up to put out a blaze that was our Durango! An electrical fire had started at the left rear tailight! Needless to say, our truck went up in flames. I am curious if other 2001 Durango owners have experienced similar electrical problems with their vehicles. We are yet awaiting the insurance claim information.

My Durango Sport 2001, was all the way up in my driveway right next to my side door, not running and someone knocks on the door to tell my wife that the truck was on fire. I was not at home at the time but when i returned home the inside of the truck was charred. The dash board, and steering wheel was all melted down. The seats were melted down to the metal frame. The outside of the car was still in good condition. At this time the car is being investigated for arson, which I really believe is not the case. Im really upset because I had the intentions of paying off my truck and living life without a car note. I still owe on my truck and im still paying my insurance and car note, I'm afraid that if the insurance company calls my truck a total loss, and they payoff the remaining balance, I might be caught in a wash, where my truck is paid off but I'm without a truck, and left without enough money to get a car or to put down a decent down payment. I will get back in contact asap when I get the report from the fire marshall.
