Durango SLT Plus 4x4 4.7L

HVAC blower resistor failed three times under warranty. Fourth failure also included a melting of the connector plug between the power lead and high speed connection. Replaced plug. Dealer advised connector overheated due to high current drain by blower motor. Fifth failure of resistor (total failure) I decided to change the motor as dealer had directed. When I went to remove the resistor I noted that the replacement connector had also arced and melted on the primray supply side!! I changed the motor because I was unable to measure actual current drain of motor. Dealer stated that the cost of the replacement connector went from $19.00 to $67.00!! Thank you, Daimler-Benz!!

What concerns me is the dealers I have dealt with seem to be going through these connectors and resistors fairly regularly. What is a greater concern is the fact that two of my failures involved arcing and heat to the extent that the connector plastic melted and the connection failed. At ho time have I ever replaced ANY fuses, fusable links or other safety disconnect devices. This problem has the potential for a significant under-dash fire.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has not responded to written complaint filed.

The harness arced across in the connector bunt the hvac resistor and the fan quit. The whole truck stunk and we had no heat in the vehicle. Stunk like burnt plastic for a week!!
