Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

Please take a moment & say thank you by donating $5 or whatever you can to the Center for Auto Safety.

CarComplaints.com Notes: The second generation Durango was introduced in 2004 and instantly came under fire for, well, catching on fire.

From 2004-2006 electrical overloading in the driver's side instrument panel caused numerous reports of interior fires. The interior infernos became so commonplace that Chrysler eventually issued a recall.

The problems didn't stop there, however. Owners of the recalled vehicles complained about being treated unfairly and given take-it-or-leave-it low ball settlement offers. "They offered me $2000 under NADA retail as a settlement," said one owner, "and have been rude and hostile to deal with." Nothing says awesome service like treating your customers rudely after their cars have already caught on fire.

This is getting ridiculous and it seems that no one is willing to take ownership for a faulty system that is obviously dangerous. What I found to be absurd is how multiple people have posted numerous complaints about the same issue, recalls have been made for the same issue and still no action. I have a 2005 Dodge Durango and each and every time I fill my tank the pump will stop but an excessive amount of gas will overflow. How many complaints must be entered before someone takes action or are manufacturers waiting for a catastrophic mishap to get their attention. Fumes could easily get under the vehicle, and find the catalytic converter and ignite. Something must be done, the time is now. Take responsibility!

When I fill my gas tank I get a very strong gas smell, the cab fill with gas fumes. You can only smell gas on the drivers side I brought it in 3 times to be looked at but not issues can be found. The odometer says "gas cap" but the dealer finds no code issues. There is clearly a issue with my Durango but no one is willing to help me with it!! Dodge said that my Durango is not included in the recall notice and they are more than willing to hook it up to there computer for $100 bucks! I have had this Durango since 12/2212 and have been working with the private dealer that sold it to me he is not able to find anything wrong with it. I am only getting 7-10 miles per gallon that is crazy. Im not sure what to do.

My gas tank has overflowed twice since December 22nd when I was fueling the vehicle. While fueling the gas came pouring out where you fill it. I have read that there was a recall for this problem but I have not received any info on this nor do I know if it was ever addressed I have had this vehicle for about 3 years. And where I bought it is no longer in business.

I just purchased the 2005 Dodge Durango limited on December 11th, 2012, I filled up the gas tank all the way on the morning of Friday, December 14th, 2012, the pump clicked off, and gas sprayed everywhere. Dodge will not help me, neither will any omaha Dodge dealer. I have never owned a vehicle that sprayed gasoline everywhere when pumping gas, this is definitely a manufacture defect that should have been addressed at the plant. Whatever happened to quality control in America, please, please, please help!! this is a fire hazard waiting to happen!!

Recently purchased used vehicle. Every time you fill up the fuel tank, when the pump automatically shuts off fuel sprays past the nozzles vapor recovery boot and out of the fuel filler neck. This is vaporized/atomized gasoline, which leads to an extreme fire hazard. I notified Dodge of this situation, but they responded only by saying that there are no open recalls or campaigns regarding my vehicle.

The reason for filing a vehicle safety complaint is as follows: Every time I have tried to fill-up my gas tank on my 2005 Dodge Durango, the gas not only starts to shoot out of the tank. It shoots out all over me and the floor. The dealer (town and country Jeep Chrysler Dodge) where the vehicle was originally purchased is insisting there is no such recall for this extremely serious and dangerous issue. On top of that, they have also suggesting that I bring my vehicle in for a diagnostic evaluation at their labor rate which is $ $110 per hour. Please note I am a smoker and not proud of. Even if I weren't, I can't understand why they refuse to see this as an incident or what's worse an accident waiting to happen now or in the future. I would think it would be less of a cost to them now, rather than taking such a risk in the future with someone's life or lives. Priorities"????" meanwhile I'll continue to stock up paper towels on trip to the gas station. Way to go ( town and country).

Reason for filing a vehicle safety complaint is as follows; every time I have tried to fill-up my gas tank on my 2005 Dodge, the gas not only starts to shoot out of the tank itself, but also all over my truck, myself and all over the floor. The security Dodge dealer where the vehicle was originally purchased is insisting there is no such recall for this serious and dangerous issue. On top of that, they are suggesting that I take it in for a diagnostic evaluation and pay $ $110 an hour labor fee. Please note I am a smoker though not proud of it. Even if I weren't I can't understand why they refuse to see this as a incident/accident waiting to happen now or in the future. I would think this would be less of a cost to them, rather taking a chance with a life or lives being lost. Priorities "????" in the meantime I'll continue to have to carry lots of paper towels when getting gas. Started Nov. 1st. 2012.

I just bought it from a private party and went to fill it up and once it was full it spewed gas all over me and the ground. I thought it was a fluke, but when I filled it up a second time, it did the same thing. I started my search on the internet, and found, there was a recall for 04, 05, 06, and 07 Durangos for this issue. I took it to the dealership, and was told my VIN was not included for my 05 Durango. I proceeded to go online and talk to Dodge directly and got a response that they were standing behind what the dealership said. I proceeded to email them back to get it escalated with no response. I just dont know why there would be recalls all around my vehicle, and my vehicle is doing exactly what the recall said it was doing. Hopefully it does not cause a fire hazard, or cause anything to the environment. All I need is to find out how to get my VIN number included in the recall or who to talk to, to get it corrected.

The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact was refueling the vehicle when fuel sprayed out of the fuel filler neck. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The mechanic advised that the air ventilation filter failed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised that the air ventilation filter was not sold separately and that the entire fuel tank would have to be replaced. The vehicle was also included in NHTSA campaign id number: 09V003000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly) and was repaired by the previous owner. The vehicle was not repaired for the most recent failure. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 112,000.

I am the owner of a 2005 Dodge Durango. We are having an issue were the fuel will not shut off at the pump. There is a recall for that year, but surprisingly enough our VIN # does not fall under the recall. We had the fuel tank replaced in January of 2008 under warranty for the same issue. Obviously there is an issue with the tanks and their manufacturing process. Concern is the tank was replaced with a defective tank that was manufactured during the recall time frame, but concerned is not being addressed because the VIN # does not fall with in a certain manufacturing date. I am greatly concerned due to the recall stating that the issue can cause fire. What will it take for Dodge to recognize the issue.

Upon fueling gas tank until fill, gas tank spews gasoline out of filler tube. Took it in to inspection, and was rejected, due to slight emissions leak. Failed inspection. Took to diagnostics center and had smoke test. Resulted in a slight leak that can not be found. Advised to have total fuel tank and refill assembly replaced at $700 +. called Chrysler recall hotline, and VIN did not match for potential recall potential.
