My Dodge Durango has been having this problem for awhile. I finally did some online reading of posts and found other drivers having the same issue. Almost every day when I start my SUV the RPM's rev up and down. It also does this when I am sitting at a drive-thu line, stop sign, or in traffic. It also has died on me when driving. Mostly when coming from a stop, but happens when making turns, or sometimes just for no reason at all. If it doesn't stall it hesitates. It also will jump forward when coming to a stop. Like I said this has been happening for awhile. We have serviced the SUV for repair every time this has happened. The repair shop then fixes or cleans certain parts/areas, just for it to happen again. Yesterday (June 27, 2012) it stopped working with all my children in the SUV at a busy intersection. It is currently sitting in a shop while the techs scratch their heads trying to figure out the problem.

Exhaust started ticking and upon investigating found 2 rear manifold bolts broken off allowing exhaust fumes to leak into engine compartment. Talked to Dodge dealer and found it is a very common problem and very expensive to repair.

Upon turning into parking lot of local store, car shut down and system locked up. No power steering and no engine light came on. Was able to steer car to parking space, stop and restart vehicle. This is the second occurrence in 2 weeks. Same scenario, going slow in parking lot and vehicle shuts down. Another problem has come up now when after I start the vehicle in the morning, it surges from 1000 RPM to 2000 back and forth for about 10-15 seconds. My questions for the Durango makers is when will their be a total recall on these SUV's?

I have a 2006 Dodge Durango and recently it has started dying while driving. When this happens, the "check engine" light illuminates and the engine shuts off. Steering and braking become very difficult and is very dangerous. My mechanic used a diagnostic tool and said it showed a code for the cam shaft sensor, and it was replaced. Happened again a few weeks later. The diagnostic tool showed a code for the crank shaft sensor, and it was replaced. It is still happening. Vehicle never fails to start after getting the vehicle stopped but due to the difficulty in steering and braking when it stalls, I have nearly had accidents. Please help!

Dodge Durango 2006. I have had numerous problems with this vehicle. At 119,000 miles, I have had the exhaust manifold gasket replaced 4 times due to broken bolts/studs, all O2 sensors replaced as well as the catalytic converter. The fuel system overflows when fueling up, splashing over the gas attendant and vehicle. The most serious and dangerous problem lately has been the vehicle stalling at all speeds in the rain. When I brought the vehicle to the dealer they said there was an update for a cowl below the windshield wipers that protects the firewall from water. They replaced this part. The next time it rained the problem occurred again, truck stalled at 45 mph. When the vehicle stalls you lose power steering which makes it difficult to get to a shoulder. Once the truck is stopped and placed into park it will restart without a problem. The stalling continues to occur in the rain. Very scary.

My police department's 2006 Dodge Durango has had 5 cam sensors fail (one sensor twice, the other 3 times). It happens every few thousand miles. The check engine light comes on and the car runs rough. Each time the patrol vehicle is taken out of service. This time I'm told that the part is on back order with says to me that we are not the only people having this problem.

The contact leases a 2006 Dodge Durango. The vehicle has been to the dealer several times for NHTSA campaign id number 07V092000 (electrical system: Instrument panel); however, the failure has not been corrected. The vehicle constantly fails to start, accelerates on its own, and the cruise control does not work. The dealer continues to state that there are no failures. The manufacturer agreed with the dealer and would not provide any assistance. The current mileage was 28,000 and failure mileage was 15,000. Updated 01/17/08 the vehicle repeatedly does not start and sometimes when the vehicle does start it does not go into gear and once the key is removed from the ignition the vehicle still continues to run. : the contact stated while driving 20 mph, upon turning either direction, the steering wheel locked and the engine stalled. Additionally, the engine and air bag lights illuminated. The vehicle was restarted immediately. This occurred intermittently. The vehicle was driven to the dealer who could not diagnose the problem. Updated 12/01/06.

Progressively worse engine idle at stops on '06 Durango w/ 5.7 hemi. When stopping at light/sign, engine will drop from (normal) around 700rpm to below 500 RPM and feels like its about to stall. It will then come up to 500rpm (rough idle) and fluctuate between 450 and 550. If I give at a little gas, it will come up to normal RPM and stay. Dealer says they couldn't get any codes or find problems, however they saw same symptoms when turning wheel. After researching, I found that this same problem has been reported for '04 & '05 5.7 hemi's and has some vehicles stalling during a turn in intersection (this is a potentially fatal defect). Dealer confirmed that chrylser is aware of a problem and has no fix for it. The dealer had me pick up the vehicle to use until a fix is available.
