The engine gave off a whining noise. Using this site I read it might be a problem related to the power steering. When I brought it to a garage they said a bearing in my alternator was causing the problem. (the alternator was providing the right level of volts). Decided to get a second opinion and brought it to a garage next to my place of work. He immediately located the problem as being the Idle pulley. It is just above the alternator. He was right on the money as the noise completely stopped once he installed a new pulley.
