Intrepid 4 DR ES 3.3L

  • Automatic transmission

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

I BOUGHT THE CAR A COUPLE YEARS AGO FOR ABOUT $700 AND THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED OR WOULD LOCK IN GEAR. CHANGED TRANS FLUID AND FILTER AND THAT HELPED SIGNIFICANTLY BUT DIDN'T FIX THE LOCKING INTO GEAR PROBLEM. IT SHIFTED FIND FOR ABOUT A YEAR THEN STEADILY GOT WORSE TO THE POINT NOW WHERE IT WON'T GO IN REVERSE AND YOU HAVE TO REV THE MOTOR TO GET IT IN DRIVE AND WHEN IT DOES GO INTO GEAR ITS LOCKED IN 1ST UNTIL THE TRANS REACH FULLY WARM THEN I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN THEN IT USUALLY SHIFTS FINE UNTIL YOU SHUT IT OFF AND IT GET COLD AGAIN. I LIVE IN MICHIGAN WHERE THE SNOW SEEMS TO NEVER STOP AND THIS CAR GOES THROUGH MORE SNOW WITHOUT GETTING STUCK THEN MY 4X4 BLAZER COULD. I CONSIDER IT ONE OF MY BEST BUYS BESIDES THIS PROBLEM.

Intrepid ES V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 150,000 miles

Transmission will not shift. Ran through computer diagnostic, told me transmission problem on third gear slips. Changed transmission. Then gears shifted for 5 days, now problem not shifting again for a week, then started shifting again for a week. Now it doesn't shift again. Called Dodge dealer, told me that you had to teach "Quick Learn" computer (Like resetting the car's computer). However, won't guarantee that it will fix the problem. Don't know why it won't work, dealer is too expensive ($86.00 an hour). Don't know what to do. It's a shame car is a beauty. Anybody with info that could help please let me know.

Bought the car used and had no trouble for several thousand miles. then car would shift gears normally until you stopped, then would not shift out of first. Then i found if i cut off the ignition when i stopped then started up again, the trans. would shift ok until stopped again. had to repeat each time i stopped. saw on the internet that i needed to change fluid to ATF-4. i did so and car is working much better (not perfect yet) but getting better all the time. hoping for a complete recovery. i understand there is an additive to change your fluid to ATF-4. comes in a black bottle from trans. repair shops.

My Intrepid's transmission will usually slip when i start it up and ocassionally when i hit the gas after stopping for a red light or stop sign. Also on the way home today my transmission wouldn't shift gears at all once i was in drive. Not sure what the problem is.
