CarComplaints.com Notes: The Dodge Intrepid, Stratus & other Chrysler sedans are infamous for oil sludge problems with the 2.7L V6 engine. If someone offers to sell you a 2.7L V6 model, it's only worth the price of the scrap metal it's going to shortly turn into.

NOTE: Only the 2.7L V6 has the oil sludge problem. Our "Avoid like the Plague" designation is ONLY for models with the 2.7L V6 engine. All other available engines are very reliable with no major problems.

Even with regular maintenance, the oil sludge defect eventually destroys the 2.7L engine typically around 80,000-100,000 miles. The only true fix we know about is to put in the larger 3.2L engine, which has a great reputation.

This issue was never deemed a safety defect by the Feds, so there was no recall. In the end, Chrysler got away with FOUR YEARS worth of defective 2.7L V6 engines in their sedans.

My car first started to shut down while I was driving. I will try to start the car but it will not even turn over or do anything at that. Everything electrical will come on or work except it will not turn over or start. After I got it towed home after a while it will come on and run fine like nothing happened .then after some weeks of running fine it would hesitate to shut off here and there after i drove for a while or the car was really warmed up from driving. and i had to keep my foot on the gas or drive under 40 or 30 miles an hour if i tried to go any faster the car would just shut down .now every time i start it i have to start it with a jump and the car will idle really high and low high and low back to back can you please help me with the problem or an idea please

My 2001 dodge intrepid has poor air conditioning by it working when it wants to, speed odometer does not work, the millage reading stop working, oil light turns on, engine dies out of the sudden. It seems like im driving an EXORCIST car. Chrysler this is negligence, unethical and the business bureau should close you down and put you in jail!!!!
