My car is now actually shuting off while driving. and I am also having trouble starting my car. I had my spark plugs changed 2 weeks ago & engine light is still on. The sensor says "cam shaft". I went to a private garage and was told there is a couple of sensors with this cam shaft. The mechanic said he can fix it if I find out which sensor it is. This seems to be a better option then the Dodge dealer because they want me to get a tune up, $299.00 first then whatever else they find wrong.

While driving my 2004 dodge intrepid loses power and shut offs, but not before the check engine light somes on along with the oil light that flickers when I am applying the brake and coming to a stop. It happens at least twice a week while I am driving. After being shut off for 10 to 12 hours, the check engine light and oil light do not appear to be on but as the day goes on the eventually come on and the car begins to lose power. I call dimler chrysler and they told me they did not know anything about those symptoms and does not know why my car is shutting off and losing power, but I see there are a number of people who have the same problem with the 2.7 engine. Please involve me if there is going to be a class action suit against them.

I have a 2004 Dodge Intrepid SE 2.7l and will NEVER buy any car that is manufactured by Dahlmer Chrysler and recommend no one else does either until they listen to the frustrated voices of their consumers. Almost immediately after I got my car I had occasional issue with it dying while I was driving. Pretty soon it got to be more often so I took it to the dealership as it was still under warranty. After 3 trips I was always told, nothing was wrong or they couldn't identify the issue. Then my warranty ran out and it seemed my car died almost daily, especially if I was low on gas. To avoid engine shut offs while on the freeway, I decided to always keep a certain amount of gas in my car at all times. This only worked for so long. This problem only got worse. The car would die while I was driving, usually would start right back up but not always and then the check engine light would be on. Then I had issues starting my car. Since my warranty had run out I decided to take the less expensive route and go to a local mechanic. He drove the car and saw/felt no issues and of course the check engine light was now off. He told me he had to have the car hooked up to the diagnostic machine at the time it dies so he could see what the issue was as 2 different codes were coming up. These codes were P0340 (intermittent CMP signal) and P0344 (no CMP signal). I was told one of the connectors was installed improperly on my camshaft sensor and after he reconnected it correctly the problem was gone. However, after another try.... the car dies again. Mechanic stated the car started right back up and issue was gone. I paid him and drove off only to have my car die AGAIN. At this point I called the Dodge dealership to see what the codes meant. Without even looking at my car, I was told, have the camshaft sensor replaced. I was quoted $285.00. I had just paid almost $200.00 to the last guy and didn't have any more money to spend on it with my hefty car payment. A friend who knows about cars heard me having issues starting my car one day, I told him what I was told was wrong and the quote of $285.00 from Dodge. He laughed, we went to a local auto part store and purchased a camshaft sensor for $48.00. Literally it took 5 minutes to loosen a nut, pop the faulty camshaft sensor off, put the new one on and tighten the nut. That simple..... No more issues with my car dying while driving (whether it be on a side street or a busy freeway going 65mph) or starting. I think its disgusting there are complaints logged at least 7 years back ont his particular engine and Dahlmer/Chrysler/Dodge are still manufacturing automobiles with this engine size and ignoring the complaints. I have seen many people request to be contacted if a class action lawsuit is to be brought upon Dahlmer/Chrysler/Dodge, I am seriously looking into the process of starting a case and would welcome anyone with similar issues or issues in general with the 2.7L engine to give me their contact info to help build a case. This should not be acceptable and why should people have to actually die in a wreck when the car dies on the freeway to get answers. Please if you are serious about action, contact me through this forum. It can't hurt to talk louder in case they can't hear us.
