This is a VERY common problem with the 97 Ram 1500 trucks. First time one burst I was stopped at the post office. Went to back up to pull away and the brake pedal went to the floor. NO WARNING!! Never leaked a drop on the driveway until the line split wide open. Lucky for me I was parked at the time. Took it to the local Dodge dealer and they spliced on a new line from the cab back to the rear axle and charged me $187 bucks! FOR ONE LINE!! They told me it would cost me over $850 to replace all the steel lines. $99 per hour labor and about $75 in parts. So, I'm at O'Reilly Auto Parts pricing what I need to do the job myself and the guy next to me said he just had the same thing happened on his 97 Ram! This problem should be a recall before someone gets killed on the road!! Come on DODGE.... wake up and do the right thing -- DO A RECALL THESE BRAKE LINES NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ram 1500 SE 5.9L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 108,000 miles

Brake line rusted through twice. First just behind the gas tank, had that section replaced. Second, at the frame rail just under the engine. Had the whole line replaced this time, don't want to loose my brakes like that again, no warning just foot to the floor no brakes. Had to use the emergency brake to stop, and drive home.
