My dodge b1500 1997 van 3.9L 6cyl. The van cuts off-replaced many sensors but still no luck.?
It happens when i come to stop at a light or after i stop (for gas) and cruising down the highway it starts to cut off and i have to restart on road.
I think it is some sensor because i replaced:
Fuel pump - (in tank) It was going bad anyway as it turned out (no fuel pressure - not up to spec) so this was good
TPS throttle position sensor
Ignition Coil
Distributor Coil
Idle Air Cntrol
Rotor/distbutor
Plug wires
Plugs
Air filter.
Of course, It runs much better as these DID need changing but, it still stalls. Seems to be no way to predict conditions that occur to cause the engine
shutdown. I noticed the lights did go out once when it was about to stall. But that doesnt happen every time.
I dont have enough $ to replace all the sensors and / or the EMT computer (unless you know that is what is wrong).
The van usually starts back up but sometimes with difficulty. Sometimes I must turn off the key and try again to get it started. Otherwise, if I start
cranking it then it doesn't fire up. It's like it is not getting fuel, but, see details below for what I have replaced.
Anyway, no codes come back. it failed while on the analyzer and they still couldnt figure it out. I was told a relay could be bad too. I switched all the
identical relays around but no luck.

MCU (computer)
Any ideas or anyone fixed this problem???

Hi Yall, I have had my truck for almost two years now. I am the second owner. The truck was great until I had owned it for about 8 months, then all hell broke loose.
First it started running really rough and would shake violently if I drove it faster than 45mph. My dad and I though it was bad spark plugs or something, so we replaced them, and it made no difference. We then took it to a local mechanic. He told us we probably had a cracked head! He also said it was common in the 5.9L. Not sure whether to believe him or not we took it to another shop. luckily he said it was my fuel injection. He replaced the injectors and it was good, so we thought.
A week later it started again... we took it back and he dropped the entire fuel system, replaced both pumps (one in the tank and one on the line), the fuel line and the injectors. When he opened up the in-tank pump it was all eroded, the root of the problem.
So we paid about $1500 for all of that...
About a month later we had to rebuild the front suspension because it was rubbing metal to metal and did some damage. That cost about $1000
A few weeks later my power steering gear box went out. This cost about $500
Everything went great for the next few months until about July of 07 when It decided that it did not want to idle... We had the Idle Air Control Valve replaced. Cost about $250. That kind of worked it still idled low or high off and on and sometimes ran fine.
Then a little more than a week ago the timing chain cover cracked. So we took it back to our mechanic, who by the way gives us discounts because we are his most frequent customer... He replaced the cover and found that the chain and gears were also worn out. this cost us a fun $760.
My dad is now convinced that we need to get reed of the damn thing (Ive been saying that for several months now)
To end it all two days ago it decided to not idle any more without me keeping my foot on the gas. we have not fixed this latest event and probably wont...
So that comes to about $4510. Don't we all love our first car...
