Started as one little crack and now it's spiderwebbing. Worried that my three year old son who rides in it could catch a piece of flying plastic. Dodge needs to fix this now!

Dodge has been my care company for more than 20 years. I have had my Dodge Ram 1500 4 x4 XLT Laramie since 2003 and it has been a wonderful truck. The dash board is now cracking pretty significantly and needs to be replaced. I am thinking it will be in the $1000.00 range because both pieces are cracking. Warranty has long been gone but I had this happen on my previous Chrysler Town and Country van as well. Frustrating to have to spend money for junk parts.

cracked dashboard

Its a cracked dash, what else is there more to say.

I can say that I haven't used a lot of harsh chemicals that leach out the plasticizers over the life of this vehicle.

I certainly hope there's a recall.

I love my truck! It is my baby and she is well taken care of inside and out. People who see her are amazed she is 10 years old. I noticed last year that I had a crack in the lower back part of my dash near the windshield. It nearly splits my dash in two, now I have 2 more cracks. I was cleaning my windshield and wiping down the dash I noticed more cracks. I went to gently pull up the broken piece of dash to see if it was repairable and the entire vent crumbled like nothing I have ever seen before. My dash is slowly disintegrating. I have always been an avid Dodge fan but now I am having second thoughts. Something so simple can turn your hard earned dollars into wasted money. I had planned on keeping my truck forever but now I am not sure I will be able to. This seems to be an on going thing with these trucks and I feel Dodge should step up and at the very least pay part of the expense of replacing these dashboards with better quality material. I am now afraid that I will continue to have more problems due to the dashboard issue. Otherwise, my Dodge has served me well, runs like a top and no other major issues! Come on Dodge stand by your product!

I've been watching my truck age significantly inside as the dashboard crumbles and the handle grips just pop-off. The outside of the truck looks brand new and inside it looks 100 years old. I'm now experiencing electrical issues (the headlights interfere with the radio) and I've found on forums it is likely due to the cracking dashboard and allowing light in to melt the electrical. I've been trying for years to get dodge to replace it or recall it, but to no avail.

Ok, so I recently buy this one owner Dodge Ram 1500 Pickup. 2003, 90,000. In PRISTINE condition. I mean primo. I get in the pickup, and am pulling out of my driveway and hear what was a loud craking sound, like breaking plastic. I didn't think much of it, thinking I ran over a can or something. Later in the day, I notice my dash board. Oh my god. It has this large crack in it. right above the glove box from the glove box to the window. I then notice another crack right above the passanger door vent (dash) that is working it's way up toward the window. I do some more inspection and see yet another crack near the defrost vent and a small part of the vent missing. I figured that out today when I piece of plastic blew in my face and hit me in the eye when I turned the ac on. I thought, well, maybe I was duked. Maybe it was in an accident. I check it all out with carfax. NOTHING. Clean title. Well maintained one owner. WTF. I call my local dealer. 'Well, we are aware of the issue, we have heard about these things happening, but your truck is out of warranty". What? This is NOT a warranty issue. It's a defect. After hours of research, I see this is a huge problem with these trucks. The dealer said it's about a $2800.00 fix?? WHAT?? So now I am stuck. I am going to persue this matter for as long as it takes. This is not "SUN DAMAGE" I know what sun damage is. This is a defect. I have been driving cars/trucks for 30 years, never ever seen a dashboard do this. Ever. Please keep the complaints coming. Tomorrow I am doing battle with Dodge at 800-992-1997. I am one pissed customer. who was a loyal Dodge fan....Not any longer.

It started as a small crack then it went to two more cracks in to different locations.

Then the dash started falling apart, with holes. The truck has been a good one. I have 175000 miles on it. Still looks good on the outside. Now it needs new seat cushions and dash. They need to recall the dash and the seats.

The dash has been cracked since the truck was less than 2 years old. I complained to Dodge and was told Sorry not covered under warranty. Now the air conditioner has stopped working . I suspect that parts of the dash have fallen in the blower. If I take the dash off it will be in dozens of pieces and I will never get it back on. My truck has about 60k on it now and is in great shape for a truck that is now 10 years old. I have always kept a sun visor in the window to protect the dash.

This is a damn shame that a truck that is supposed to be tough and take a beating...can't even hold up to normal wear and tear of going back and forth to work on paved roads.
