I had belt noise and the next you know, I'm waiting for a tow, and my fan, serp belt, coolant, and what was left of my radiator and fan shroud were laying in the intersection. The fan snapped clean off at the fan clutch, and destroyed everything in the way to stopping it. It was covered under extended warranty, but would have been a fat bill, and I got a ford ranger from enterprize as a comparable rental, which is most deffinantly "not comparable". The dealer said that it wasn't the first that they had seen of my situation,... huge inconvenience for anyone but especially the guy whos not covered.
